Riot Games has finally broken the silence surrounding their LoL MMO, announcing a shift in direction with ambitious plans to redefine the genre of MMOs and deliver a game that represents "a significant evolution."
After a long break of not hearing anything about Riot's MMO, co-founder Marc Merrill gave detailed update on their progress and plans for the future. The MMO will experience a turn in directions and won't proceed with their previous plans, and here is why!
Riot Co-Founder Announces Change Of Direction For Riot MMO
In an extensive 𝕏 threat, Marc Merrill finally shared the current status of the Riot MMO. Apparently they made the decision to reset the direction of the project some time ago. This decision was acknowledged as difficult but deemed necessary as the initial vision didn't offer enough differentiation from existing games. Marc emphasized the importance of creating an MMO that felt like a significant evolution of the genre rather than just adding a Runeterra twist.
Although he didn't talk about this in more detail, we assume that this decision was made after Greg 'Ghostcrawler' Street, who was the former executive producer for the Riot MMO, left the company about a year ago.
On 𝕏, Marc then introduced us to the project's new executive producer, Fabrice Condominas. Having led major projects at Riot, BioWare, and EA, he brings a fresh perspective and a shared commitment to the project.
With this new path ahead of them, he announced that they will now be "going dark", meaning that we will not hear about the LoL MMO for several years from now while they are working on it.
Thank you for believing in us and for your patience. We're incredibly committed to this mission and we look forward to the adventure ahead and the stories we'll tell together.
