LoL Players Feeling Nostalgic After Reveal Of New April Fools Skins, Reminded Of A Time When "Skins Were Fun And One Off For Champions Rather Than Thematics"

The League of Legends community loves the new April Fools skins. Older players feel like they've taken a time machine back to better days.

The new April Fools skins have been revealed by Riot Games and players absolutely love them. The skins are weird, whacky and don't follow a specific theme, something that the community seems to truly appreciate after years of forced thematics on champions.

This year, Riot is not bringing back an old skin line, like Bees or Cats vs. Dogs, instead we're getting a random bunch of skins that just... work.

The new April Fools skins have just been added to the Public Beta Environment and will go live with LoL Patch 14.7. There are a total of five skins being added to the game and while none of them are prestige skins or legendary skins, they do have a certain charm with them and the LoL players base loves it.

In recent years, skins have always been a part of a specific thematic, with Riot creating multiple alternate universes for their characters. While that is a pretty cool idea, it does have its flaws. Some champions have to be forced to fit specific thematics they have no business even trying to fit into. But Riot has to do this so that champions can get new skins.

League of Legends players also feel that these new April Fools skins work perfectly. With these skins, the champions got to dictate what the skin would look like and be — the dip for the gooey character and the Durian for the spikey ball champion — and therefore they aren't being held back by a forced narrative at all.

I felt a level of nostalgia with these skins and a nod to old Riot when skins were fun and one off for champions rather than thematics which they are forced into.

Riot didn't always have the policy of creating skins with specific thematics in mind, instead creating skins that worked for the champion model and the champion aesthetic, which many people think has been brought back with this skin line, making some think of the "good old days".

These skins have truly won over the players and what many have pointed out that these are also amazing skins even though every single champion on the list is on the lower end of the popularity spectrum. Hopefully there will be more amazing skins like this in 2024. Maybe something iconic for Halloween?
