Epic Loot: Fired Blizzard Worker Snags 10 Years of WoW Subs Before Leaving

Imagine getting let go, but still getting away with thousands of dollars worth of free WoW time. Well, one former Blizzard worker did just that.

Around 1,900 employees had been let go by Microsoft last week, many of whom had been part of Activision Blizzard. This news came shortly after Riot had also let go of over 500 employees as well, plunging the games sector into utter despair.

One Blizzard employee who had been let go as well did manage one small win before exiting the company though, and that was a decade of free World of Warcraft play time.

World of Warcraft is probably one of the few games still operating on a subscription basis, and players are continuously pumping money into the game, either on a monthly or yearly basis. Blizzard employees, as an employee benefit, were allowed to get free subscriptions to the game.

Well, those who got laid off unfortunately, are not privy to these employee benefits anymore, duh. But Adam Holisky, the former core technology product lead at Blizzard, managed to get all free subscription codes he had left.

In total, he managed to snag enough codes to be able to play WoW for the next decade. Looking at what he'd posted on Twitter, he's going to be supplied with free WoW time until October 2033. This also means that he's saved himself quite a lot of money. If we don't take into account that the price of subscription could change, he just saved himself $1,754.

Other Blizzard employees were not as fortunate, it seems. A former customer support worker wrote under Holisky's tweet that he tried to get some codes mid-meeting, but the keyring site crashed, which means he couldn't claim all of his subscription codes.

While there have been multiple layoffs at Blizzard, it seems like the WoW team is still going strong, with a new expansion set to come out in late Summer 2024. So get ready for World of Warcraft The War Within, though I do wish we would finally get some night elf mohawks as a class...
