League of Legends fans are questioning some of the oddest decisions Riot has made. The most recent revolves around Rioters monetizing their streams.
It was recently revealed that Riot has issued a new policy which would stop their staff from monetizing their streams whenever they play games by Riot. This new policy left fans furious, as well as confused.
Fans have stated that they feel this is targeting specific members from Riot Games who have taken time out of their lives to stream their games and give more insight into the inner workings at Riot while making the games. So, what does this new policy mean for fans?
League of Legends: Fans Furious Over New Streaming Policy For Devs
If you're a fan of League of Legends or any games associated to Riot, then there are a few devs who you might have heard of. Riot August or Mortdog are two who come to mind as the most vocal and well-known members who also bring a lot of transparency to the game.
Especially TFT Lead Designer Riot Mortdog is known for his streams where he goes over changes in the Riot Game's auto battler. He's also stated before that he doesn't earn much from streaming, because most of the money he does make goes back into giveaways for RP and similar things for his viewers.
Riot Employees are no longer allowed to monetize their streams when they're streaming Riot's games by u/MuffinLoL in leagueoflegends
On March 18 it was revealed that a new policy will hinder Riot devs from streaming their own games though, with Riot stating that any streams from devs are not allowed to be monetized. This policy will only count for official Riot Games though, and devs can still monetize streams of games from other developers.
This has infuriated fans who believe that this is targeting specific devs. They also stated that some devs might have to make brand-new Twitch accounts just to stream Riot titles, because unlike with YouTube videos where you can demonetize videos automatically, anyone who is a Twitch partner will have their stream monetized.
From my understanding, the skinny is that a dev (who will also not be named) abused their position at Riot for self-serving purposes and to ingratiate them with big content creators and used their stream as a vehicle to primarily achieve notoriety.

Fans believe that Riot is being too restrictive and demanding more and more control over their employees, which isn't right. For now there has been no news whether Riot will change this policy, but it seems that most Riot devs who do stream and are known to stream have now moved onto other games.
