I know, I know: Game of Thrones can be a sensitive topic for fans (it is for me, too). Still, we got some news on one of the many spinoffs: Aegon's Conquest is starting to take shape!
HBO has a reputation of having absolutely amazing shows that completely fall apart on the home stretch. Not only Game of Thrones' final season was a huge let-down for many fans, Westworld kind of got the same unworthy treatment.
The GoT universe is far from dead, though. There are lots of spinoffs in the works, and I'm not talking about the upcoming second season of House of the Dragons – there are animated shows, there's The Hedge Knight, the Jon Snow spinoff and now, we even have news about Aegon's Conquest.
Before we dive in, I am one of those people: I highly recommend giving George R.R. Martin's books a try. At times, it feels like they tell a completely different story than the show and, considering they are still a work-in-progress, there's high hopes for a better ending.
Aegon's Conquest: Game of Thrones Spinoff Finally Found A Writer
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Aegon's Conquest finally found a writer to tackle the House of the Dragon prequel, and it's none other than Mattson Tomlin – as a Batman fan, you might know him!
His newest task is now the backstory of the backstory. In House of the Dragon, we get to know more Targaryens but at this point, they are already on the Throne. How did they get there in the first place? Who was the Targaryen to set up the family as Kings and Queens?
Meet Aegon I Targaryen, fittingly titled "Aegon The Conqueror." He's the one to take his sister-wives Visenya and Rhaenys (nope, not the one from House of the Dragon) and his dragons from Valyria to Westeros and shaped the land to the one we know so well. In a bloody and brutal conquest, he united six Kingdoms and sat on the Iron Throne as the first Targaryen King. Six, you might ask? Yeah, Dorne put up one hell of a fight.
Kind of hard to keep track of the Targaryen lineage, with all the incest and whatnot, but there are approximately seventeen generations between Aegon I and Daenerys. Just FYI. Eighteen to Jon, then?
There's still a long way to go until Aegon's Conquest sees the light of day, though. Just because they finally have a writer on board, that doesn't mean the release is right around the corner. And it better be not: please, take your time. Make it good. For all our sakes.
We'll keep you updated no matter what, so tune in every once in a while. Until then, here are some more HBO shows to get excited for:
