The new Apple TV+ show Manhunt is just around the corner, coming out in spring 2024. Here's everything you need to know about the upcoming miniseries, including the release date, cast and plot (especially interesting for those who slept through history class)!
We probably all know about former president Abraham Lincoln and his assassination from history class, right? Back then, the topic could be dry at times, even though it's morbidly fascinating. Studying dates and locations for a test isn't the most fun activity out there.
A thrilling topic, on the other hand? The chase for Lincoln's murderer. That's exactly what Apple TV+ has in store for viewers, based on this book right here and, obviously, historic events. Here's everything you need to know about the upcoming show.
Manhunt on Apple TV+ | Release Date
The wait is nearly over: Manhunt will debut on Apple TV+ on March 15, 2024.
Kicking off with two episodes, new episodes will release weekly on Fridays, resulting in the following release schedule:
- Episodes 1 & 2: March 15
- Episode 3: March 22
- Episode 4: March 29
- Episode 5: April 5
- Episode 6: April 12
- Episode 7: April 19
Manhunt On Apple TV+ | Cast
Manhunt has a pretty good cast backing it up. Tobias Menzies stars as Edwin Stanton, Lincoln's secretary of war and close friend. That man really has a way with historical dramas (looking at you, Outlander), hasn't he? The culprit, John Wilkes Booth, is portrayed by Anthony Boyle (from Masters of the Air). Lincoln himself is played by Hamish Linklater.
The cast also includes Lovie Simone, Matt Walsh, Brandon Flynn and Betty Gabriel. The show is going to be directed by Carl Franklin who also worked on Netflix's series about Jeffrey Dahmer – man knows about criminals, alright.
Manhunt On Apple TV+ | Plot
I'm not your history teacher, so I won't annoy you with the specifics. You can simply see for yourself come March 15, but here's the synopsis anyway:
“Manhunt” is a conspiracy thriller about one of the best known but least understood crimes in history, the astonishing story of the hunt for John Wilkes Booth in the aftermath of Abraham Lincoln’s assassination.
And, for good measure, here's the back cover from the book:
The murder of Abraham Lincoln set off the greatest manhunt in American history. From April 14 to April 26, 1865, the assassin, John Wilkes Booth, led Union cavalry and detectives on a wild twelve-day chase through the streets of Washington, D.C., across the swamps of Maryland, and into the forests of Virginia, while the nation, still reeling from the just-ended Civil War, watched in horror and sadness.
We're still waiting for a trailer to share, but going off of what we have so far, the show could turn out to be a thrilling history lesson. We'll update you as soon as we've got a first look for you!
