Dune 2 has been dethroned by a movie as the top film of 2024. Who would have thought after the hype that surrounded Dune 2 when it released? Well, it seems that a few emotions boiling over within an animated teenager seems to have hit the mark and become the biggest film of the year thus far.

Inside Out 2, the newest Pixar flick, has become the biggest hit of the year. Not only has it dominated domestically, but worldwide, it's the movie inciting the most emotion within viewers, bringing them to the movie theater in what has since been a lackluster year for cinema.

Inside Out 2 Becomes Biggest Movie Hit Of 2024

Dune 2 has been the movie to beat since it was released earlier this year. After Furiosa failed, as well as other movies like Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes and Godzilla x Kong, most thought that no movie would be able to reach the heights Dune.

According to box office mojo, Dune 2 had been at the top with a whopping $711,844,358 in worldwide earnings. Second place had been Godzilla x Kong, which had earned a "mere" $567,650,016. So, where does Inside Out 2 rank in all of this?

So far, the Pixar flick has managed a worldwide revenue of $724,383,116. This is thanks to a strong domestic start for the movie, grossing a total $355,183,116. That's $73,038,758 more than Dune 2 earned domestically.

2024 is a stacked year for movies, with Deadpool & Wolverine coming in July, Joker later this fall and Gladiator II set for November. Will any of these movies be able to overtake the new number 1?
