Kevin Costner has revealed that he will not be a part of the second half of Yellowstone Season 5.
Yellowstone is going to continue with the second half of the fifth season, but without their leading man, John Dutton. Kevin Costner's character is what drew many fans to the show, cementing it as one of the biggest hits. The series has even made it to streaming service Netflix, where it became one of the most watched shows as well.
But for the second half of the fifth season, Costner's character will be absent. Yep, sadly, it looks like John Dutton will not be returning to Yellowstone.
Kevin Costner Will Not Return To Yellowstone
It's finally been revealed when Yellowstone season 5B will release, but there has been quite a lot of speculation surrounding the series leading man and whether he's going to be returning as John Dutton. Well, now Kevin Costner has set the record straight and revealed that he will not be returning to Yellowstone to reprise his role as the head of the Dutton family.
[...] I just realized that I'm not going to be able to continue Season 5, or into the future. It was something that really changed me. I loved it and I know you loved it. And I just wanted to let you know that I won't be returning. I love the relationship that we've been able to develop, and I'll see you at the movies.
Costner came to the decision after Yellowstone endured multiple delays. During these delays, the well-known actor signed up to other projects, and now there are time conflicts. So he will instead be sending the next few years working on other things, like his Western film series, Horizon: An American Saga.
He revealed that he planned to film and work on Horizon during Yellowstone breaks, with the Paramount series taking precedent. Due to the delays, though, tit became unfeasible. Which ultimately made him decide against his return to focus on Horizon instead.
[The Yellowstone Producers] wanted to redo that [contract], and instead of seasons six and seven, it was 5A and 5B, and maybe we'll do six. They weren't able to make those. Horizon was set in the middle, but Yellowstone was first position. I fit [Horizon] into the gaps. They just kept moving their gaps.
Now the writers will have to figure out what to do with his character. Will he have mysteriously died or just left the to go on a trip around the world? We'll have to see when Yellowstone season 5 part 2 releases this November.
