Finally: Severance Season 2 is making progress! It's been over two years since the show ended, and for the longest time, news have been sparse. Now, Severance is picking up steam again. Here's everything we know so far, including the expected release date, the returning cast and even more.
Long time no see – Severance Season 2 has been rather tight-lipped about the state of the art for over two years, save for the occasional updates from Ben Stiller saying "Don't worry, we're on it." Even though the show got renewed in April 2022, it's taking a while for the new season to come out – while it's agonizing to wait that long, it's probably for the best they are taking their time, making sure season 2 doesn't fall short.
The production process had lots of problems to deal with, starting with the infamous Hollywood strikes back in 2023 and even more issues behind the scenes, but one thing at a time. It's been a while, what was Severance about, again?
In the show Severance, Mark works at Lumon Industries and leads two separate lives. When he's at work, he only remembers work-related stuff. But when he's not at work, he can't recall anything about his job. This is because of the company's policies, which keep work and personal lives completely separate. Mark starts to realize that there's something suspicious about Lumon's practices and starts to investigate.
Remember that? Great, then let's dive into everything we know about the upcoming season 2 of Severance!
Severance Season 2 Has Finally Wrapped Filming After Lots Of Turbulences
It was almost an emotional moment when the news broke: Severance Season 2 has finally wrapped filming after a rather turbulent production process. Carol Deelay, costume designer on the show, shared on her Instagram story that "it's a wrap on season 2."

Severance Season 2 had to face a whole litany of issues to solve in the past two years, including the strikes that completely halted production and some more problems behind the scenes. Reportedly, showrunners Dan Erickson and Mark Friedman weren't on the best terms during the first season, leading to multiple difficulties regarding the script, but also the budget. Ben Stiller himself had to smooth things over for them to be working on the second season as a team again.
But it's a wrap now – the wait for Severance Season 2 should soon be over, but when can we expect the show to grace our screens again?
Severance Season 2 | Expected Release Date
Ben Stiller assured that they were always on track to begin with: "We're on the same really slow schedule we've always been on. Same target air date we've always had." Alas, there is no official release date yet. AppleTV+ released their upcoming shows for this year and, lo and behold, Severance's second season is part of the strong line-up! Calculating with the schedule of the first season – eight months of shooting, six months of post-production and a release two months after that – would set up Severance Season 2 for a December 2024 release.
The Cast Returns For Severance Season 2, And Then Some
There's no reason why the cast should change and as long as nothing unexpected happens, we're pretty sure to see the familiar faces from the first season, including:
- Adam Scott as Mark
- Patricia Arquette as Harmony
- Zach Cherry as Dylan
- John Turturro as Irving
- Britt Lower as Helly
- Tramell Tillman as Milchick
- Dichen Lachmann as Ms. Casey/Gemma
- Christopher Walken as Burt
- Jen Tullock as Devon
- Michael Chernus as Ricken
On top of that, according to Variety, fans can look forward to an amazing extended cast. While the roles are still undisclosed, Gwendoline Christie, Alia Shawkat, Bob Balaban, Merrit Wever, Robby Benson, Stefano Carannante, John Noble and Ólafur Darri Ólafsson have been cast and are going to join in on the fun.
But when that fun's going to start at Apple TV+ is anyone's guess at this point – we'll make sure to keep you updated!
