The Star Wars universe is gearing up to expand even more and after The Rise of Skywalker, there are certain Skywalkers-by-choice who have big plans: Rey sets out to rebuild the Jedi Order. Here's what we know so far, including the possible release date.
Since Star Wars is under Disney's wing, the galaxy far, far away has expanded significantly – shows like Ahsoka or Andor, new movies and maybe even a whole new trilogy. Even though the sequels have a special place within the Star Wars fandom, that's no reason to call it quits.
Cue: Rey's return! When we last saw her, she had a little identity crisis because of her heritage. To deal with that, she just took on the Skywalker name and called it a day for the time being, but soon it'll be time to face new challenges for her.
We've gathered everything you need to know about the upcoming new Star Wars movie, including the possible release date!
The New Jedi Order Sees Rey Taking Star Wars In "A Different Direction"
It's been confirmed that Daisy Ridley will reprise her role as Rey "Skywalker", and apparently the story's got her intrigued enough to return to the franchise that hasn't been too kind on her character in the past, giving her the "Mary Sue"-treatment (meaning: hating her online). New Jedi Order will see Rey fifteen years after the events of Rise of Skywalker, so maybe she'll have grown up enough for the fandom to finally take her seriously.
Sitting down with AlloCiné, Ridley shared her excitement for Rey's return:
"Once I knew what the story was and everything, I knew that it was something that I really wanted to do. I think it's a fantastic exploration of the Star Wars world. It's a really cool way of taking the story in a bit of a different direction."
This new direction could also stem from the new movie's director: Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy has lots of awards under her belt and will be the first woman to direct a Star Wars movie. And according to Ridley, Obaid-Chinoy apparently has a vision that really spoke to her. Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight has also joined the team, writing the script for the movie.
Obviously, neither of them shared exactly what's coming up, but we do know one thing: the Jedi Order needs rebuilding and Rey is up for the task – for now, at least. It hasn't been confirmed yet if the new movie marks the first one in a possible new trilogy, but it hasn't been denied, either.
Is Rey Going To Reunite With Poe And Finn?
Speculations have run wild about who's going to be at Ridley's side in the new movie. One theory fans have is that Adam Driver might make an appearance as Ben Solo (Kylo Ren for those of you who forgot), even if it's just as a Force ghost like his dear grandfather Anakin did before. Driver himself said that he's "not doing any more" Star Wars, so he seems set on that – really sorry, Reylo faction.
Others wish for a reunion with Poe and Finn, played by Oscar Isaac and John Boyega, respectively. While they were pretty much done with Star Wars after the sequel trilogy, maybe enough time has passed for them to reconsider their stance and aid Rey in her newest mission.
When Is Star Wars: New Jedi Order Going To Release?
While we can't be sure when the new movie is coming out (don't hold your breath, it's going to be a while), Disney has booked three slots for releases in the next few years – chances are one of those release dates is for Rey's movie.
The slots are booked for May 22, 2026, December 18, 2026 and December 17, 2027. So the earliest we could see Rey back at it again is in 2026. We'll keep you posted on New Jedi Order (which is, by the way, not the final title of the movie but rather the overall time period it's gonna be set in), so make sure to check in every once in a while to not miss a single thing!
