Will Trent has been renewed and will get a season 2! We've gathered all the info you could possibly ask for, including the possible release date, the cast and any other news about the hard-to-love cop and, most importantly, Betty.
Will Trent may be the Dr. House of detectives – kind of hard to like, but really good at what he does. And, more importantly, he's got a cute dog (I actually prefer bigger dogs, but Betty is just irresistible) and that's enough for me to excuse him for his behavior at times.
Back in April 2023, Will Trent got officially renewed for its second season, continuing the cop adventure with even more mysteries to come. Here's everything you need to know about that and then some!
For those of you outside of the US, Will Trent streams on Disney+.
Will Trent Season 2: Release Date Prediction
You probably dread it as much as I do, but let's get straight to the facts: there is no official release date just yet. The delay is also due to the Hollywood strikes, but with them ending, there's nothing standing in the way of production anymore.
Most other shows affected by the strikes will start filming in spring 2024, so chances are Will Trent's going to go a similar route. Based on that and the time production took for the first season, we can estimate that Will Trent season 2 could hit ABC as soon as fall 2024.
Still, it's best to wait out any official announcements – count on us to update you on that as soon as they come.
Will Trent Season 2: Returning Cast
The show lives and dies with its cast, as so many others do, so it's pretty safe to say that we'll see familiar faces return for season 2. That includes Ramón Rodríguez as the one and only Will Trent, Iantha Richardson as Faith Mitchell and, of course, Erika Christensen as Angie Polaski.
Chances are the supporting cast will also reprise their roles, including Sonja Sohn as Angela, Cora Lu Tran as Nico, LisaGay Hamilton as Evelyn, Jake McLaughlin as Michael Ormewood and Mark-Paul Gosselaar as Paul Campano.
Betty the chihuahua is also set to return, of course. Just for your interest, the dog who played Betty is actually called Bluebell. It hasn't been confirmed if she's set to return or if another dog will take over her part, though. Either way, she did a good job, such a good girl!
Can't Wait For Season 2? Get Into Will Trent's Roots
The show is based on the Will Trent book series by Karin Slaughter, consisting of 11 books. Before you jump right in to get the whole series, hear me out: the books are quite different from the show. I'd actually recommend to maybe dip your toes in with the first book in the series, Triptych , to test the waters and see if you like the style.
The books are beloved in the crime thriller community and do excel in gritty and suspenseful storytelling, but if you're looking to read them through the lens of someone who has simply enjoyed the show, they might not be your cup of tea.
OG Will Trent fans that liked the books have been a bit disappointed in the TV show and vice versa, with TV audiences checking out the books and putting them down unsatisfied. While the premise in the books and the show is largely the same, they do differ in many aspects, especially storytelling, focus on the characters and at times even their relationships. And I'm not here to give you advice on which books to read if it's nothing more than a coin flip if you'll enjoy them or not.
Getting the first book could turn out in your favor though, and if you just can't get enough of Will Trent content, want to give them a try and have not even ten bucks to spare, here you go!
