In Warzone 2.0, the well-known Gulag will be played 2v2 and also get some other innovations. Sounds very interesting in any case.
The Gulag. Love it or hate it, we all end up there eventually. When it first began it was a fantastic idea that borrowed from the popular Gunfight mode from Modern Warfare 2019. It was bare-bones and raw, exactly as it should have been for a prison fight.
But then they started to add new maps and new weapons. The maps weren't popular and as the weapons became more powerful it made the fight less interesting. So, we were hoping they would take it back to something simple and gritty again in Warzone 2, but instead they're complicating it even more. They're making it a 2v2 mode, and it even sounds like there's going to be an AI boss in the Gulag with you...
The New Gulag Will Be 2v2 In Warzone 2.0
The new Gulag in Warzone 2 lets us compete against each other in 2v2 matches. So we have to team up with another random player to defeat the opposing duo. All players start with the same loadout, consisting of a pistol or shotgun as well as one lethal and tactical equipment, but in the middle of the map better weapons can be looted. The winning team is then revived as usual and allowed back into the current match.
But there is one more innovation, namely an AI boss, the Jailer. If the Gulag match takes too long, there won't be a flag to capture any longer, but an AI boss will spawn. This boss tries to finish off all players, but of course can be defeated. The interesting bit here is that the two teams can also team up against the boss and should they defeat him, all four players will be revived. However, if the boss finishes you off or the timer runs out before a decision was made, all players are eliminated from the match and don't get a second chance.
Looting weapons? AI bosses? I don't know about you, but that feels completely against the spirit of the Gulag to us. The 2v2 idea could have been fun if it was just that, but this sounds like too much. Although, we'll have to play it for ourselves when Warzone 2 is released to fairly review it.
The new Gulag is just one of many of the huge changes coming to Warzone 2...
