How To Fix Error Code 2901 in Modern Warfare 2 & Warzone 2

To fix error code 2901, start by simply trying to force your account to be re-verified with the servers, and if this fails, try re-installing one of the game packages.

  1. Back out to the launch screen of MW2/Warzone 2, and try to log in.

Reinstalling Content Packs In MW2 & Warzone 2

Warzone 2 and Modern Warfare 2 are made up of several smaller content packs, rather than being one 200+ GB download. Whenever your game has been corrupted by an update and cannot verify with the servers, reinstalling just one content pack almost always repairs the whole game. Here's how.

PlayStation

Here is how to install a single CoD content pack on PlayStation:

  1. Find the Modern Warfare 2 app from the main PlayStation menu, and press "Options".
  2. This will bring up some options for MW2, select "Manage Game Content".
  3. You will be taken to a menu that shows you the different content packs, choose the smallest (Campaign Pack 2), and select the trash can symbol on the right to delete the pack.
  4. Once the pack is deleted you will see a download logo where the trash can was, just select that logo to redownload and install the content pack.

Easy-peasy.

Xbox

The process is almost identical on Xbox:

  1. Find Modern Warfare 2 on the Xbox home menu, and press "Start".
  2. Select "Manage Game" from the list of options.
  3. You will see all the content packs in this new window, select the tickbox next to the smallest content pack (Campaign Pack 2) and then delete from the options on the right.
  4. Once the pack is deleted you can simply reselect the tickbox for this content pack and select download from the options on the right to reinstall it.

You'll get error code 2901 fixed in no time!

PC

Follow these steps for PC. The stages are slightly different depending on whether you use Steam or Battle.net.

Battle.net

  1. Open Battle.net and find Modern Warfare 2.
  2. Press the cog besides the play button.
  3. Select "Modify Install" from the dropdown list.
  4. Now select "Game Content".
  5. Select the smallest content pack (Campaign Pack 2), and "Install".
  6. The pack will atomically be downloaded and installed.

Steam

  1. Open up Steam and find Modern Warfare 2.
  2. Right-click the game and select "Properties".
