Dune was a masterpiece, and set up to get a sequel from the start. Now, we finally got some news on what we can expect and when.
Dune was my movie of the year. Actually, it was more than that, it was one of the movies of the decade and set up one of the most intriguing cinematic universes since the MCU. I understand that the slow-burner is not everybody's cup of tea, but I'll say this: If Dune 1 was crawling, Dune 2 should be Usain Bolt - the sequel will be wild, and now we finally have some official news on the upcoming blockbuster, because the screenplay is finished, and - according to reports - Dune 2 will be even more epic, thanks to more IMAX footage.
Dune 2 Screenplay Finished, Includes More IMAX
Director Denis Villeneuve returns to helm the sequel, and he recently spoke with Collider to give some insight:
The screenplay is finished mostly, but it's always a work in progress. It'll be a work in progress until final cut, but I will say it's solidified. I have a script in my hands. We are in prep right now.
Now, if you watched Dune at the movies, and if you're anything like me, you couldn't believe the visuals, and you'll be pleased to hear that Dune 2 will give us all that and more: We're getting more IMAX footage, so don't even try streaming this one.
Cinematographer] Greig Fraser and I — we fell in love with this format, and definitely there [will] be — even probably more — IMAX footage in this movie. Definitely.
As for the casting, rumor has it that Austin Butler will play the role of Feyd-Rausha, and Florence Pugh is being considered for Princess Irulan.
