It has been a good long while since Daredevil came around and blew our socks off, and nowadays, there are more Marvel Shows than you can hope to shake a stick at. Here's what's out in 2022.
There's so much to dive into when we're talking about Marvel. So many franchises, so many characters, so many stories, so many products. From the many Marvel Movies that come out each year, to the many Marvel TV Shows that come out each year, to the less frequent but generally far worse Marvel games that grace us with their presence, you could more or less swim in an ocean of Marvel content if you wanted to.
It really is the golden age of comic book and superhero content, isn't it? DC even seem to be turning the ship around, with great movies like The Batman and Joker impressing us in a way that previous DCU movies haven't been able to. Still, nothing comes close to what Marvel has managed to achieve in terms of pure quantity, scale, and (even though it is declining) quality. While there have been duds, the vast majority of Marvel Content has been darn-good, and that's a truly extraordinary statement to be able to make.
Fortunately, Marvel has an insane number of television shows coming this year. Just a wild number of different shows. Some have already started, some are in their second season, and some are brand new. All are Marvel and all are somehow superhero related. In other words, if your body is ready for superhero content, then you ain't going to be disappointed by 2022...
Which Marvel Shows Are Coming in 2022?
There are already five Marvel shows coming out in 2022, including Moon Knight (which started only a few months ago). That is almost a new show every two months and, if you think about it, means that you are all going to need to really keep up-to-date if you want to watch everything. There's going to be some serious overlap! Anyway, here are the five Marvel shows that you can expect to release throughout 2022:
Marvel Show | Release Date |
Moon Knight | March 30, 2022 |
Ms. Marvel | June 8, 2022 |
She-Hulk | August 17, 2022 |
Secret Invasion | 2023 |
What If...? (Season 2) | 2023 |
It is sad, but Secret Invasion and What If...? have been delayed into 2023. We kinda expected that, though. But, with Moon Knight, Ms. Marvel and She-Hulk, there are a bunch of series for you in the meantime.
In terms of quality, though, I'm afraid that most of these range from meh to terrible. Moon Knight is pretty good, but man... Ms. Marvel and She-Hulk were just such a decline in quality. In terms of What If...? (Season 2), we expect to see it early next year, but there is also a possibility there that it could get pushed back a bit.
Moon Knight (March 30, 2022)
Moon Knight debuted back in March and has been pretty decent. Its short six-episode run meant that the show stayed fresh and didn't overstay its welcome, and that's something which a lot of American television programs could learn from (seriously, fork off with those 20-something episode seasons!). This show follows a character called Marc Spector, who is a mercenary with dissociative identity disorder and ends up in the middle of an Egyptian-god related mystery. Sounds bizarre, doesn't it? Well, it is Marvel after all, but this one is pretty dark. In fact, one of our writers once called this show "the most violent MCU addition yet".
Ms. Marvel (June 8, 2022)
Ms. Marvel follows Kamala Khan, a fangirl of the Avengers. In particular, this badass kid is a massive fan of Captain Marvel, and wants to be just like her when she grows up. That's all well and good, until Kamala inevitably finds herself developing superpowers and being required to save the world. What a shocking surprise, right? The protagonist of a Marvel show turns to be a superhero! Shock, horror! Jokes aside, Ms. Marvel looks to be a pretty sweet little kids show, and we're intrigued to see how it turns out. Fingers crossed, right?
She-Hulk (August 17, 2022)
This one is looking a bit tedious, to be honest with you, I didn't even watch it. I just couldn't be bothered. She-Hulk follows Jennifer, who (much like Ms. Marvel) ends up with superpowers. In She-Hulk's case, these powers are less cool and more... green. She basically turns into a female Hulk. Holy sh*t, that would be one terrible Monday morning, wouldn't it? "Why am I so green?" "Why do I have this uncontrollable rage?" "What did you do to me, Bruce, you creepy wanker!" Jokes about She-Hulk's skin tone aside (Hulk-racist!), this looks... incredibly terrible. Honestly, the CGI is worse than it was 10 years ago and the writing just seems stupid.
Secret Invasion (2023)
This comic book crossover is being developed as a limited series for Disney+ and will be based on the comic strips of the same name. In Secret Invasion, a bunch of well-known Marvel characters are set to come together to secretly confront a group of baddies that are probably planning some kind of terrible retribution upon mankind... for some reason or another. Secret Invasion actually could turn out to be awesome, but sadly this one has been pushed back to 2023.
What If...?, Season 2 (2023)
The first season of What If...? received mixed reviews, so there's a lot to improve upon in the show's second season. This animated anthology is based on the Marvel Comics of the same name and continues the trend of multiverse content that seems to be tearing the world up at the moment. Honestly, I haven't seen it. I have nothing to add. However, some people like it, it has an okay critic score on Metacritic, and could be a nice little watch. Everything is getting delayed at the moment, though, and that hit this show as well, unfortunately.
So there you have it, folks: every Marvel Show to grace our presence in the year of our lord 2022. These shows will pretty much all come to Disney+ over the course of the year, available for streaming in all sorts of definitions on all kinds of devices. It's all very exciting, if you're not burnt out on Marvel. We won't blame you if you are, but we do have to admit that Moon Knight has got our juices flowing again over these last few weeks. Get hyped!
