Throughout all four seasons of Stranger Things, we got to know a bunch of characters, and we grew to love even those who were a little rougher around the edges. If we're lucky, we might see one of our most beloved characters in a Stranger Things spin-off series.
Stranger Things continues to be one of Netflix's hit shows, even years after the release of the first season. Now, that the series has finally concluded its fourth season however, fans are hungry for more. But instead of producing season 5, we're actually hoping Netflix invests in a Stranger Things spin-off series based on the latest official novel.
Fair warning, if you haven't watched the Stranger Things finale yet, then you probably won't want to read ahead, as this article contains spoilers.
One of the most shocking parts of the Stranger Things season 4 finale has to have been Eddie Munson's death, and most fans of Stranger Things would agree with me. The former outcast made hero was one of the most beloved characters that were introduced to the show, and his death led to complaints from fans.
While Netflix has made it quite clear that Eddie Munson will not be brought back from the dead, there is a possibility that we might see Eddie back in action on our screens, but in a Stranger Things spin-off series.
Stranger Things: Will There Be A Spin-Off Series?
So, we won't be seeing Eddie Munson's revival literally (what, too soon?), but we might see his character again in his own series' spin-off of Stranger Things.
Now, you might be asking yourself just about now, what would make us think that Eddie Munson will get his own spin-off show, even after his character was killed off?
Well, if you haven't heard, there is a series of official Stranger Things novels that are being released, and the newest addition to the series is a book about Eddie Munson, from back when he was still breathing.
The book is called Flight of Icarus and since it is set before the occurrences of season 4, it offers us and Netflix the perfect opportunity to bring this fan-favorite back to life (I'm sorry! The puns are just flowing out of me right now).
There isn't any official confirmation from Netflix, that we will get a Stranger Things spin-off series, but when we lay out the facts, it would definitely be a missed opportunity on Netflix's part, if they didn't produce a spin-off.
I mean a) Eddie is a very popular character, especially thanks to his beautiful character arc, that resonates with many fans.
B) The actor that has previously portrayed Eddie, Joseph Quinn, is currently 29 years old. So, he probably won't start showing many signs of aging soon, and since he already portrayed a character that was younger than him, what would stop Netflix from using Joseph Quinn to play Eddie yet again?
C) Have I mentioned just how popular not only Eddie's character was, but Stranger Things in general?
I mean, you already have the plot line set, thanks to Flight of Icarus, you have the actor, the fandom, so what is Netflix waiting for? Well, we don't know right now, but hopefully we'll get a statement from Netflix soon!
Stranger Things: What Is Flight Of Icarus About?
For those of you that are wondering what the Stranger Things spin-off series would even look like, we'll give you a short glimpse into Flight of Icarus, that is, if you haven't already ordered a copy of the book for yourself.
Flight of Icarus takes place in 1984, two years before season four of Stranger Things. The book was written by one of the writers for Stranger Things, Caitlin Schneiderhan, and she takes us along on Eddie's adventure to try and finally make it out of boring Hawkins.
Eddie's life takes a turn when he meets a special girl – Paige – who has successfully made her way out of Hawkins all the way to LA. The coolest thing about her? She offers to help Eddie make it out of Hawkins – all he needs is a demo of the Corroded Coffin’s best songs.
Easier said than done. With money being a problem, and Eddie's father coming back into his life, Eddie gets caught up in one of his father's dubious schemes in order to build a life for himself, far away from Hawkins.
The book isn't out just yet, but it is available for pre-order and will be released at the end of October 2023. Perhaps once the book comes out, Netflix will give us an announcement about a spin-off series?
If you're interested, Flight of Icarus is the sixth and latest installation of the book series, that let us look closer into the past of some of our favorite beloved characters in Stranger Things. Here are the first five books in the official Stranger Things book series:
As soon as we hear something from Netflix, we'll make sure to keep this article, and you of course, updated!
