With Ahsoka streaming on Disney+, the beloved character got her well-deserved place in the spotlight. Catching up on decades of lore surrounding the new fan-favorite can be hard, though, so let's answer some crucial questions, starting with the most pressing one: how did Ahsoka even survive Order 66?
Getting deep into Star Wars lore can be a real challenge. There's movies, there's books, there's shows (live-action AND animated) and games and basically everything else under the sun. What's canon and what's not is a whole other debate that can get out of hand at times.
If you've got lots of time on your hands, you can watch the animated show Star Wars: The Clone Wars. That's seven seasons worth of Star Wars lore, including but not limited to Ahsoka's backstory. If you need to know now how Ahsoka survived the Jedi Purge, here's the short version!
How Ahsoka Survived Order 66
Warning: you're stepping into spoiler territory. If you plan on watching Star Wars: The Clone Wars and/or Star Wars Rebels, you might want to leave. Reading about Ahsoka Season 2 might be better suited for you.
The infamous Order 66 that wiped out nearly all Jedi coincidentally left a few key players out – Ahsoka Tano being one of them, even though she was in the middle of countless Clone Troopers receiving the order, which is definitely not the best place to be when their implanted control chips compel them to kill all Jedi.
There are two major reasons why Ahsoka got out of there relatively unscathed. She is her master's padawan after all, and just like Anakin, she didn't agree with the Jedi Council's decisions and separated herself from the Jedi order prior to the purge. That's why she wasn't directly targeted like others were, upping her chances of survival.
The second reason why she lived to tell the tale is her companion Captain Rex, arguably the most awesome Clone in the whole galaxy. Because of his loyalty to Ahsoka, he was able to resist the initial command to execute Order 66 and after removing the control chip and a whole lot of violence, Rex and Ahsoka were able to get to an Y-Wing and out of the danger zone.
After crash landing and using the crash site to fake their deaths, Rex and Ahsoka were able to fly under the radar for the time being. Star Wars Rebels explores their survival more in-depth and is a must-watch for Ahsoka fans, as it's basically the prequel to the new Disney+ show.
