Vought's beloved crew of superhero misfits (some might even call them psychos!) is gearing up for a return to your screens in the much-awaited Season 4 of The Boys on Prime Video. All the details you need, from the release date and returning actors to possible plot twists and beyond, we've got them right here for you.
While the lighthearted Marvel comedy trope surely does it for fans of the superhero genre, The Boys fills the void for people who are into a darker perspective. It's dark, it's gritty, it's unforgiving – and fans loved the show for it, leading to the spinoff Gen V.
Now, it's finally time to get back into the hype as The Boys Season 4 is rapidly approaching. We've got all the info for you to get right back into it!
The Boys is an Amazon series set in a universe where superheroes, also called Supes, are made and marketed by a giant corporation, Vought International. It follows a group of vigilantes, The Boys, aiming to counter corrupt Supes who abuse their powers.
The Boys Season 4: Release Date & Trailer
It's official and we also got the first look: The Boys Season 4 will hit Prime Video on June 13, 2024.
The new season will have a total of eight episodes. A new episodes releases each week, which means the season finale will be on July 18. The stakes are higher than ever, so prepare for an exciting season!
The Boys Season 4: Returning Cast & New Faces
The Boys had an amazing cast for the past three seasons, with Antony Starr especially standing out for his spectacular performance of Homelander, who's basically Superman with Mommy issues. Freud would have had a field day with this one! The rest of the cast delivered as well, really emphasizing the messed up world they're portraying through excessive swearing and dark humor!
The returning cast for The Boys Season 4 includes:
- Karl Urban as Butcher
- Jack Quaid as Hughie
- Antony Starr as Homelander
- Laz Alonso as MM
- Tomer Capone as Frenchie
- Karen Fukuhara as Kimiko
- Erin Moriarty as Starlight
- Chace Crawford as The Deep.
That's not every familiar face we think might return for season 4, and we're especially hopeful for Jensen Ackles as Soldier Boy. His satirical, toxic masculine portrayal of Captain America really elevated the show and not to forget about his relation with Homelander.
New to the cast in season 4 will be Susan Heyward, Valorie Curry and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
Showrunner Eric Kripke has hinted that the show follows the premise of never closing a door, leaving room for surprise appearances from characters presumed dead or gone. Soldier Boy already had his first guest appearance in the spin-off of the show, Gen V.
Considering there's also an Easter egg that introduced us to one of the main cast members of Gen V in season 3, there might be more hidden details to come in season 4 as well.
The Boys Season 4's Plot Continues After Gen V's Season Finale
While an official synopsis for Season 4 is yet to be released, showrunner Eric Kripke has provided some insights into what viewers can expect.
The focus will be on Ryan, Homelander's son, who becomes the center of a power struggle between Butcher and Homelander. Considering Homelander lasered a guy's head off after he assaulted his son, there is nothing the Supe won't do to protect him.
Prime has also shared the following:
In Season Four of The Boys, the world is on the brink. Victoria Neuman is closer than ever to the Oval Office—and Butcher, who has only months to live, has lost Becca’s son as well as his job as The Boys’ leader. The team is fed up with his lies—but with the stakes higher than ever, they have to find a way to work together and save the world.
Also, don't forget about the Temp-V which temporarily gives ordinary people superpowers, although there are some dire aftereffects. Especially, Butcher will be hard-pressed to find a solution to this virus.
And, most importantly, the Gen V season finale directly ties into The Boys' next season – I won't spoil anything if you somehow slept on Gen V, but just be aware that even Kripke himself said to Variety:
It’s like there’s Season 3 of “The Boys,” and then after that “Gen V” takes place, and then after that “The Boys” Season 4 takes place. And then after that, “Gen V” Season 2 takes place.
That's basically the anti-thesis of other superheroes' messed up timelines and surprisingly refreshing, kind of lessening the multiverse-fatigue that plagues other hero stories (won't name any names). Still, The Boys and Gen V now officially go hand in hand.
What Happened In The Boys Season 3?
Season 3 of The Boys took fans on a rollercoaster of emotions, unveiling shocking revelations and intense confrontations. From Maeve's covert assistance for Butcher and the introduction of Soldier Boy, the season was filled with action-packed scenes and gripping narratives centering around familial relations.
Homelander's descent into chaos and the explosive finale that left fans on the edge of their seats set the stage for an epic continuation in Season 4.
The Boys Season 4 is set to be the most thrilling chapter yet, building on the success of its predecessors. Fans can expect more blood-pumping action, intense character arcs, and surprising twists as the story unfolds.

The Origins Of The Boys
For those of you who didn't know, just like Invincible, The Boys is based on a comic series as well, although for this one, Amazon decided to go with a live action adaptation and change some story elements.
The Boys started out as a comic series by Garth Ennis and Darick Robertson back in 2006. Just like the show, the comics critiqued the superhero genre, depicting superheroes as corrupt, backed by the incredibly powerful corporate group, Vought International.
The comics gained critical acclaim thanks to their dark humor and violent, gritty narrative, as they explore themes of power, celebrity, and moral accountability, while providing a cynical take on the traditionally virtuous superhero archetype.
The show does include some changes, though, as for example in the comics, Butcher's wife Becky never survived giving birth to the super baby. There's a bunch of other stuff they changed that's actually even more messed up, but why not find that out for yourself?
