Original Buffy the Vampire Slayer actress, Sarah Michelle Gellar, wants Zendaya to take up the mantel.
Buffy the Vampire Slayer is celebrating the twenty-fifth anniversary of its first season this year, and talks of a reprisal or reboot are in the air. Whilst the show's creator Joss Whedon was rumored to have given the green light to a potential reboot, he has since been involved in abuse allegations that may have thrown things into the air. Nothing is certain.
This is no bother, though, as with or without Joss Whedon at the helm, we would love to see a Buffy reboot, and it seems that even Sarah Michelle Gellar - who played the titular "Buffy Summers" in the original show - seems to think it's a possibility. That's pretty exciting, but what does it have to do with Zendaya?
Well, it seems that Zendaya has actually been named by the former Buffy star as someone she would love to take up the mantel in any potential reboot of the show. In an interview given to Evan Ross Katz, the author behind Into Every Generation a Slayer is Born: How Buffy Staked Our Hearts, Gellar claimed "I vote Zendaya" when asked who she would recommend for the role.
Will Zendaya Become Buffy the Vampire Slayer?
Literally nothing is known, and we really can't say whether Zendaya would even be interested in such a role. We would be all for it, though, but also recognize that this is an actress who has been insanely busy over these last couple years.
From navigating the likely-to-be-tricky world of dating her Spider-Man co-star and Uncharted lead, Tom Holland, to starring in last year's Spider-Man: No Way Home and Dune (she even got a Fortnite skin!), she's certainly a busy bee. There is a lot of buzz surrounding Zendaya (evidenced by the fact that we're even writing an article about her in the first place), so we imagine that she would be getting offers left and right at the moment!
We don't think it is super unlikely, though, considering Zendaya's track record of participating in extremely nerdy projects. I mean, Spider-Man might be a blockbuster, but it's also a comic book film and... does it really get that much more nerdy than forking Dune? Don't get me wrong, Dune's great, but it's darn nerdy. This is some bloody good precedence for a Zendaya Buffy, so let's get this happenin'!
