Over 100,000 Cheaters Suspended Since Overwatch 2 Launch
In a recent blog post, Blizzard shared some details about an update to the Defence Matrix Initiative, which they are using to tackle disruptive behavior and cheating in Overwatch 2. It was confirmed that over 100,000 accounts had to be banned for using unauthorized hacks or hardware that gave them an unfair advantage.
A little over two months ago, Blizzard posted a similar article stating that they had to ban 50,000 players.... Considering that they were going to take more drastic measures against cheaters back then, it seems like their "measures" didn't really solve the problem, as the number simply doubled. Measures To Go Against Cheating In Overwatch 2
Since their last plan to stop these big waves of cheaters obviously didn't work out. Blizzard has now shared their recent steps towards solving this issue.
These efforts to stop hacks also include regularly issued ban waves against cheaters, often banning up to 5,000 accounts every week. With Season 4 starting, players must be more cautious when forming groups. Not only will cheaters face suspension from Overwatch 2 if reported, but also those who frequently join groups with them. Being part of a cheater's group, even without actively cheating yourself, still grants the advantage of winning matches and earning more XP.
