Were you ever wondering how all these Overwatch streamers and pro players got such good aim? Well, just like basically any skill, good aim is something that requires a lot of practice and motivation. But there are a few things you can try out to improve your aim in Overwatch 2.

How To Aim Like A Pro

The Perfect Settings

The very first thing, you should always do, is to adjust your settings. While practicing, you might want to make some minor changes afterwards, but here are the things you should start with, which will definitely benefit you. When it comes to aiming, you should make sure that you set the sensitivity of your mouse to a value that you feel comfortable with. Here is how to change your sensitivity:

  1. Press ESC in the main menu
  2. Go to options
  3. Open the tab “controls”
  4. Adjust your sensitivity with the regulator or type in any number

If you want to aim well, the lower the sensitivity, the better. But of course, you still need to make sure you can move around properly. The best sensitivity also varies with each hero, as some like Reinhardt should be able to move rather quickly. I set my mouse intensity to 9 for most heroes because that's how I get along best, but that remains a matter of taste. If you want to find the best sensitivity for yourself, I recommend going into the practice range or an aim trainer and just try out how aiming with different sensitivities feels like for you.

Another thing, you could change in your settings is the graphics quality. With lower graphics quality, you will most likely have more FPS, which is more valuable in that case, and it won’t make your game look ugly, I promise.

Here is how to change your graphics quality:

  1. Go to your video settings
  2. Open graphics quality
  3. Set it to “low”

To perfect your settings for the best possible aiming, you need to turn off the camera- and HUD shake to rule out any disturbances in the game. Here is how to do it:

  1. Go to your accessibility settings
  2. Open “general”
  3. Set camera shake to “reduced” and turn the hud shake off

Good Ways To Practice

Of course, learning by doing also applies here, just playing Overwatch 2 will certainly help you to get a better aim over time. But if you don't want to put your stats at risk and would rather see results faster, you can try the following.

In Overwatch 2 you have the option to create custom games. Naturally, many have done this before you. In the pool of custom games in Overwatch 2, there are also plenty of aim trainers, in which you can shoot at static or moving targets to improve your aim or even warm up before a game.

Here are a few workshop codes for aim trainers:

  • CT04V (classic aim trainer)
  • 6CJXR1 (vertical aiming)
  • AA5QQ (for aiming at dots)

You can use these codes by opening custom games in Overwatch 2, creating a custom game and importing the code. You can also save it as a preset, so you don't have to type in the code every time. These custom games are also quite useful as a pastime or as warm-up while you are waiting in a queue. Of course, aim trainers are just a little help on the side, but to really improve your aim, you'll need to practice... a lot. To train your aim in-game, take a look at our following gameplay tips.

Gameplay Tips

Targeting

Some heroes are harder to aim at than others, because they all have different hitbox sizes and move with different speeds. One thing that always helps to get a feeling of your opponent's movement speed, is targeting them. That may sound obvious, but very few players actually do it. All you need to do is follow your opponent with your crosshair until you find the perfect moment to shoot. You shouldn't wait too long for that moment, but while practicing your aiming, you shouldn't just shoot randomly, and hope for a headshot.

Headshots

If you want to land one headshot after another like the pros, you should always keep your crosshairs at head height. This little trick alone can work wonders when aiming at enemies on the ground, because you'll only have to adjust horizontally.

Keep A Distance

You will see, that it is more difficult to aim at enemies that are closer to you because you have to move your head a lot when they move. Therefore, if you are playing a sniper or sniper-like hero such as Hanzo, Widowmaker, Cassidy or Ana, it makes sense to stay at a distance and not move directly into the fray. These heroes are simply not made for close combat!
