CD Projekt RED put a lot of work into Cyberpunk 2077 in the last few years for it to become the game it should have been from the very beginning. With update 2.0 and the Phantom Liberty expansion, they passed their peak and reached ultimately their goal of a game they can be proud of.
Speaking of Phantom Liberty. This expansion marks the first additional content that'll include not only a completely new storyline, missions and a skilltree, but also a completely new region in Night City's Pacifica , called Dog Town.
But do you need to beat the game beforehand or play to a certain point in the game to enter the additional content? And do you need the base game at all? Read further below to get your answers!
Cyberpunk 2077: How To Start The Phantom Liberty Campaign
For a long time it was uncertain how you'll be able to enter the new region and start the new storyline, which features Idris Elba as Solomon Reed at its center. It was only known that you need the base game to enter Dog Town to begin with.
Now, CD Projekt RED has confirmed that the Phantom Liberty story will become available after you finish the main story quest "Transmission".
In which moment of the game does #PhantomLiberty start? The new storyline will unlock after you finish the Transmission quest where you encounter Maman Brigitte from Voodoo Boys. After those events, you'll be contacted by Songbird and you can start the Phantom Liberty quest afterward. Even if you're already past the "Transmission" quest, Songbird will contact you either way.
Cyberpunk 2077: Entering Phantom Liberty After Beating The Game
If you already beat the game, things might get a little bit more complicated. But there are still some options left:
- Backtrack to an older save file from before you completed the final mission. You'll either be contacted by Songbird or have a third option as your final mission choice before you enter the point of no return.
- Jump into the DLC content right from the Cyberpunk 2077 main menu, letting you bypass everything. You'll need to create a new character for this option though.
- Start a new playthrough and encounter the content naturally, just like the devs intended it to be.
