At the beginning of Cyberpunk 2077's new DLC, Phantom Liberty, you will have the optional task to take the Chimera Core during the main story missions. If you're stuck on whether you should take it, we'll explain how you can get the Chimera Core and what you can do with it later on.
One of the first main story missions you will take on in Cyberpunk 2077's Phantom Liberty DLC is the "Spider and the Fly" mission, in which you'll have to defeat the Chimera in the final battle of this mission. Optionally, once you've defeated the Chimera, you'll be able to pick up its core. Should you, though?
Cyberpunk 2077 Phantom Liberty: Why You Should Pick Up The Chimera Core
The Chimera's Core is basically an additional reward for those that finish the "Spider and the Fly" mission. After you've defeated the Chimera, you'll start the "Lucretia my Reflection" mission, where you'll have the optional task to pick up the Chimera's Core.
Taking the core is practically a no-brainer, as taking it doesn't provide any known downsides. Once you've picked up the Chimera's Core, you can either choose to trade it in or, even better, use it to craft a Tier Five Iconic Weapon mod.
There are four possible mods that you can create with the Chimera Core, but remember, you'll only be able to craft one of them, so choose wisely.
- Hackatomy – Smart Weapon Mod: Smart Weapon will gain a +5% chance to apply a quickhack effect. The type of effect depends on the body part hit.
- Wallpuncher – Tech Weapon Mod: You can charge the weapon to 200% capacity without increasing charge time. The weapon will also have +100% Armor penetration, with no penalty for penetrating cover.
- Firecracker – Power Weapon Mod: Shoots explosive rounds.
- Severance – Melee Weapon Mod: When hitting an enemy who's below 50% Health, each hit to their head or limbs has a 20% chance to dismember and instantly kill.
Cyberpunk 2077: Where To Find The Chimera Core
Finding the Chimera Core isn't as tricky as it might seem, as long as you know where to look. Your first instinct will probably be to look for the core somewhere on the Chimera's body or around it, but you won't find it there.
Instead, go a couple feet away from the Chimera, near the hall you'll exit out of, and look for a small, round metal item on the ground. It should be right between the Chimera and President Myers, right by her feet.
You can also use your scanner to find it and then pick it up. Once you've got the core, you're free to do whatever you want with it!
