Every few months, Dead by Daylight is getting a new Tome, bringing new content like cosmetics and challenges to the game. And now it's that time of the year again, with Tome 11: Devotion releasing for the game. There is a lot of cool content, and we will get to all of that. But the big thing is the introduction of a survivor's background, making them the first LGBTQIA+ character in Dead by Daylight. Finally! Let's check out all the details.

David King The First LGBTQ+ Character in Dead by Daylight

Tome 11: Devotion introduces the background of David King, a very popular survivor in the game who is now the first character in Dead by Daylight with a LGBTQIA2+ background. It feels like everyone and anything can be in this game, so it makes sense that they're not just diversifying the selection of their baddies, but also the representation of diversity with their other characters. It took a while, but it's finally happening.

With the new content in Devotion, players will be able to "uncover memories of David King, shedding light on the Survivor’s identity". Here is the full description by developer Behaviour Interactive:

Since his introduction in Dead by Daylight, Survivor David King quickly became a fan-favorite. Currently occupying a comfortable top ten position as one of the realm’s most-played Survivor, David is a hottempered ruffian with a penchant for a good scrap, whose time as a debt collector brought pain both internal and external. While a fragment of his pre-Fog life was previously revealed, there remained much to uncover. Throughout DEVOTION, fans will discover, that part of his personal struggles revolve around accepting his own identity and sexuality. David’s memories will take players in a pub, where a conversation about romantic relationships leads him to speak more about his personal life, including a past boyfriend.

In order to get the inclusion of their first LGBTQ+ character right, Behaviour Interactive have worked with GaymerX, a consulting organization who helped with integration and representation of LGBTQ+ characters in games like Life is Strange. They are experienced in this area, so it sounds good that they are included in this story.

Everything in Tome 11: Devotion in Dead By Daylight

Behaviour Interactive has also promised "completely new twists" to the narrative style with Devotion. Here's how they describe that:

While The Observer remains at the center of the storytelling, players will discover that he has abandoned his tower and is nowhere to be found. As they try to figure out what happened to him, they’ll uncover left-behind recordings through which they’ll access his memories and stories.

There will also be new cosmetics and collections that find their way to the game with Devotion:

  • The New World Stowaway outfit for The Twins
  • Night on the Town outfit for David King
  • The Spring Ensembles Collection
  • Urban Art Collection

And that's all folks! Tome 11: Devotion will be available for Dead by Daylight on April 28 for Steam, PS5, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Epic Games Store, Windows Store, Nintendo Switch and Stadia. Make sure to check it out!
