Death Stranding 2 was first announced at the Game Awards in December 2022. But what is known about the game so far? We've got all the details on the release window, story speculation, cast, platforms and more for you.
Following the tremendous success of Death Stranding , Kojima Productions announced a sequel at the Game Awards in December 2022. What have we heard about Death Stranding 2: On the Beach since then? Here's everything we know thus far.
Death Stranding 2: Possible Release Date
Unfortunately, no exact release date for Death Stranding 2 has been announced yet. However, Creative Director Hideo Kojima confirmed that Death Stranding 2 will be released sometime in 2025 for the PS5.
Sony revealed that no sequels to existing major franchises will be released until April 2025, which most likely includes Death Stranding 2. It is likely to be aiming for a release towards the end of the year, where Sony usually has a major first-party title ready to come out.
Death Stranding 2: Trailer & Story Speculation
The first official teaser trailer didn't reveal much about Death Stranding 2. However, a new catastrophe on the horizon was hinted at.
The trailer starts with Fragile and Baby Lou sitting in an underground bunker. This is the same baby Sam carried in his pod in the first Death Stranding game.
An alarm goes off, prompting the two to escape the bunker on a motorized unicycle before Fragile gets shot and falls. Briefly, a person with a weapon is seen before Fragile trys to reach Louise, who lies next to her motionless. Fragile then passes out. The sequence ends with a shot of a BB tank surrounded by Cryptobiotics.
Moments later, Sam appears as he and Fragile watch the unveiling of Fragile's new mech ship. Fragile asks him to join her crew, indicating that this scene could appear at the beginning of Death Stranding 2. After the credits, we see a mysterious masked person holding a guitar, followed by the line "Should we have connected?"
Yep, all of that looks quite confusing at first glance.
In an interview, Kojima mentioned that he completely discarded the story of Death Stranding 2 that he originally had in mind after the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic. He hasn't said concretely what the sequel will be about now. However, with the new State of Play announcement trailer, we finally learned more about the story of Death Stranding 2.
Fragile heads an organization called Drawbridge, which aims to unite communities outside the United Cities of America. She has become a true leader and is no longer seen as the fragile person from the past.
Sam joins this organization and helps bring together a new population while traversing a world plagued by otherworldly enemies, unpredictable conditions, and even more challenging environments. Natural disasters provide dynamic environments in the Death Stranding sequel, which also includes real-time terrain deformation.
The Magellan ship we've seen in the trailers serves as a mobile base for the main characters. Thanks to it, Sam will have the opportunity to move freely in places connected to the Chiral Network and even venture underground.
Although the trailer already shows many exciting things, it remains very mysterious, making it exciting to learn more about what the hell is going on here upon the game's release.
Death Stranding 2: Cast
Norman Reedus fans can rejoice as he will return in the role of Sam! Additionally, we'll see Léa Seydoux again as Fragile and Troy Baker as Higgs Monaghan. Kojima Productions has also confirmed that Elle Fanning and Shioli Kutsuna will be involved in Death Stranding 2 in yet unknown roles.
Also confirmed for the cast of Death Stranding 2: On The Beach are Jonathan Roumie, Marty Rhone, Kevin Ko, and Joseph Anthony DePronio II.
Death Stranding 2: Platforms
It has already been announced that Death Stranding 2 will be released on the PS5. Initially, it will be a PS-exclusive title. However, it is quite possible that, like its predecessor, the game will eventually be released for PC. However, this could take some time.
