A new announcement by Sony might reveal more about when we can expect Death Stranding 2.
During the latest State of Play, it was announced that Death Stranding 2: On the Beach will be released in 2025. However, it has not been said when in the year we can expect the game to release. However, a new announcement by Sony helps to narrow down the possible release window.
Hiroki Totoki, President of Sony Group Corporation, revealed in a recent earnings call that no “new major existing franchise titles” are set to release in the next fiscal year, which starts on April 1, 2024, and ends on March 31, 2025. Totoki mentions Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 and God of War Ragnarök as examples of games that are included in this category.
Death Stranding 2 Release Window Specified By Sony
While he doesn’t mention Death Stranding, it can be assumed that it also counts, as it is one of Sony’s biggest games. So it looks like Death Stranding 2 will release between April 2025 and December 2025. It is likely to be aiming for a release towards the end of the year, where Sony usually has a first-party title ready to come out.
Name | Release Date |
Death Stranding | November 8, 2019 |
PlayStation 5 (Spider-Man: Miles Morales, Demon's Souls, Astro's Playroom etc.) | November 12, 2020 |
God of War: Ragnarök | November 9, 2022 |
Marvel's Spider-Man 2 | October 20, 2023 |
A big PlayStation-exclusive title generally releases in October or November, so we expect Death Stranding 2 to come out in that period as well. That’s of course only speculative, but it would make a lot of sense.
The first game came out in November, and Sony is regularly targeting the pre-Christmas time with a big release. Also, the vibe of the game is more fitting for that time than for a summer release, wouldn’t you agree?
Until it is officially confirmed, we can only speculate about when Death Stranding 2 will finally release. Either way, it’ll unfortunately take a long while until we'll finally get it.
