GTA 5 has been around for almost a decade now and is said to be the second highest-selling game of all time. Especially GTA 5 online has been a huge success for Rockstar Games. But when it comes to GTA online there is one essential question that'll come up at some point, and that is if cross-play and cross-platform support across PlayStation, Xbox and PC is possible.

GTA 5 Cross-Play Explained

Grand Theft Auto 5 doesn't support Crossplay across different platforms. Despite the fact that the game has been released for almost 10 years now, it is pretty uncommon for an online game of this size to not support cross-play. The only way to play GTA together is when both players play on the same platform and both have the same version of GTA 5.

Even PS5 players who have the next-gen version of GTA 5 cannot play with PS4 players. The only way to avoid this problem if you have a PS5, is to play GTA 5 on the old-gen version. That way, you'll only be able to play with other PS4 users.

Will Cross-Play and Cross-Platform Support Be Added in The Future?

Don't get your hopes up on that one. Most online games like Fortnite or Rocket League added the cross-play feature around 2018 or 2019, a few years after release. So we could assume that if cross-play was planned for GTA, they would have added it already in one of the countless updates through the past few years. But who knows? Maybe they just took their time with it and someday they'll finally add that feature... If they do, we will be the first to provide you with all the information you'll need.

Until then, feel free to check out what's new on GTA 6!
