A new GTA is coming, that's for sure, but it's not certain that this upcoming Grand Theft Auto game will be GTA 6.
Yes, I'm gonna be that guy. I'm gonna be the 'everybody calm down'-guy, the 'hold your horses'-guy, the man with the platitudes, trying to stifle your excitement. But... we need that guy. After the stunt Rockstar pulled with the GTA Trilogy Remaster, we definitely need that guy. So when I hear that Rockstar officially announced GTA 6, I get as excited as the rest of you, but soon... doubt starts to creep in, and I wonder: What if the next GTA game isn't actually GTA 6?
What If The Next GTA Game Is Not GTA 6?
Rockstar has done this before: GTA Vice City. GTA San Andreas. Great games, but no numerical number. As far as numbering goes, we went from GTA 3 to GTA 4. From silent Claude to Niko Bellic. Funnily enough, many people consider GTA Vice City and GTA San Andreas to be the best GTA games, but still... no number.
Going by the quality of both Vice City and San Andreas, it's easy to make the case that the numbering doesn't matter one bit, but it still should be noted that we might not necessarily be waiting on GTA 6.
There have been many rumors around the game's setting, and the bulk of them seem to suggest the game being set in Florida, with an international spin: You build a drug empire that spans North America and... some country in Latin or South America. That could well mean that the next GTA is titled after the Latin country it's set in – a new city, joining Liberty City, Vice City and San Andreas. Of course, this is all speculation, and since there's no logic or dip in quality in relation to Rockstar's numbering, this is nothing to really worry about... just something to have on your radar.
