A new leak suggests that the upcoming Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition will be a full-scale proper remake, and not just an HD remaster.
A new GTA leak has revealed that perhaps more is being changed in Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition than was originally thought. This comes as big news to fans, whom have been left genuinely disappointed by recent announcements about the remastered trilogy.
It might not be a Grand Theft Auto VI – a game that is long overdue at this point, seeing as GTA V came out almost a decade ago now – but the GTA Remastered Trilogy is set to fill the gap left in Grand Theft Auto 5's wake. It's about time as well, we've had quite enough GTA 5 re-releases at this point.
A post on the GTA Forums from Alloc8or was promoted by GTA Online News's Twitter page, revealing that more has been done to the remastered GTA Trilogy than we originally believed. Along with visual improvements, it looks like there will be changes coming to GTA III, San Andreas, and Vice City's gameplay as well.
We doubt that these upgrades will bring these nearly twenty-year-old games up to scratch with modern Rockstar Games like Red Dead Redemption 2, but it will be good to have them ironed out a bit.
The original leaker discovered a Rockstar Support article, which has since been published, which reveals a number of major features coming to Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy – The Definitive Edition. They read as follows:
Three iconic cities, three epic stories. Play the genre-defining classics of the original Grand Theft Auto Trilogy: Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas updated for a new generation, now with across-the-board enhancements including brilliant new lighting and environmental upgrades, high resolution textures, increased draw distances, Grant Theft Auto V-style controls and targeting, and much more, bringing these beloved worlds to life with all new levels of detail.
Along with the remastered GTA Trilogy bringing the idiocy of modern game-naming-conventions to the Grand Theft Auto series, it seems that it will also upgrade these three classic GTA games far more than we expected.

It's not just the new features that Alloc8or has dug up in his various datamining efforts, with him also seemingly unearthing the GTA Trilogy's system requirements as well. The system requirements hint at something big: the collection will be about 45GB in size, as opposed to their previous 5GB size. What makes up this additional space?
It surely couldn't just be HD textures and audio, there must be more going into this remaster, right? It certainly seems like this GTA Trilogy Remake is going to be more of a full-scale remake than a basic console port. Still, it's super unclear at this point. We could be completely wrong, so let's hold out until more details are announced before we hold judgment.
