A job posting from 343 Industries is suggesting that Halo Infinite may be receiving seasonal story content and free-to-play updates.
Halo Infinite's campaign landed last December and impressed with its vast open world, plethora of side activities, multitude of fantastic skulls, and engaging story. Still, the game faltered when it came to the delivering of that same story at times. The adventure never felt the gravitas we've come to expect from Halo games, and so we were left a little disappointed by the time we reached the campaign's end.
The rumors that surfaced back in January that the game would be receiving Story DLC labelled "The Endless" thus came with a level of excitement, with fans enthusiastic to continue to enjoy further adventures and perhaps reach a more satisfying conclusion. Now, 343 Industries are advertising a "Writing Director" position, with the job ad hinting at significant "serial narrative content" that for both the multiplayer and single player portions of the game.
Now, it is a little tricky when it comes to that "single player" portion, as it does not specifically refer to such a thing. We will, however, take a look at the specifics of the job ad in a minute. For now, though, we want to quickly note that this job posting could also have implications for Halo Infinite Season 2 and any future multiplayer content.
Microsoft Job Ad Reveals Future Halo Infinite Story Content
The job listing for a "Writing Manger" offers an insight into whether we can expect more story content in Halo Infinite, clarifying that there is more coming to the game. This job ad's listed responsibilities are as follows, revealing a lot about what we can expect:
- Collaborate with Halo Infinite’s Head of Creative as well as other leads to create highly innovative and engaging, serial narrative content for Halo Infinite’s free-to-play.
- Hire, manage, and mentor a diverse team of writers, and support them to do their best work.
- Write everything from cinematic scripts to character sheets for casting to reactive A.I. dialog—and more. Provide precise and thoughtful feedback and editorial for other writers’.
- Work closely with the Halo franchise team to ensure Seasonal story content both leverages existing Halo lore and adds exciting new chapters to the larger Halo story.
- As a senior leader on Halo Infinite, champion a culture of service, respectful feedback, collaboration, transparency, and trust throughout.
- As a senior leader at 343 Industries, be a consistent source of clarity, positive energy and an exemplar of Microsoft and Xbox values.
From reading these responsibilities a few things have become very clear. Namely, that new "serial content" is coming to Halo Infinite's free-to-play multiplayer. In addition, it seems that future seasons will feature major story arcs. What it does not reveal, however, is whether DLC for the game's single player is also on the table.
Realistically, from what is listed here, it doesn't look like 343 Industries are hiring for an individual who will be involved in any future Halo Infinite Campaign DLC. Instead, what we expect is almost a Warzone-style ongoing story to take place, bringing us a number of characters and an evolving story that will provide context for future content.
Additionally, we expect that this job posting suggests that Halo Infinite's future seasons are not necessarily going well. Seeing as they're only now hiring for this position, we expect that Season 2 may be effected quite significantly (it has already been delayed by a quite a lot) and that we can't necessarily expect great story developments this year. That all being said, we will have to wait and see whether that is true.
