Mario Kart 9 was obviously coming one day, but now we know they're working on it, we have a vague idea of release date, and we've even heard about a little twist...
We've just heard the news that Mario Kart 9 might finally be on its way - and this time, with a twist. Mario Kart 8 was released eight years ago, so as excited as we are about this news, it feels long overdue. Anyway, enough moaning, let's get into this exciting Nintendo news.
What do we know about Mario Kart 9?
In an interview with gamesindustry.biz, Kantan Games' Dr. Serkan Toto was asked about the future of games in 2022, and in response he made a number of revealing predictions. We don't know any of the specific details about Nintendo's Mario Kart 9, but thanks to this interview we now know it exists, and it's closer to release than we predicated. Here's what he had to say:
I am aware Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is still selling very well on the Nintendo Switch, but Mario Kart 9 is in active development (and comes with a new twist) and Nintendo could tease it this year. On mobile, Nintendo has been very silent since Mario Kart Tour's launch in 2019, but I think 2022 is when we will see an established IP arriving on smart devices again.
Nintendo fanboys everywhere will be rejoicing at the news. This is the kind of franchise you can have every faith in; you know they aren't going to do something wild or wacky and mess it all up. It's likely to be yet another fantastic Mario Kart game.
And what device should you buy to play Mario Kart 9 on? Well, don't rush out for the OLED...
When will Mario Kart 9 be released?
Mario Kart 9 will probably be release in 2023, but we don't have an official release date yet. If the insiders like Dr. Serkan Toto are already predicting a reveal trailer for Mario Kart 9 in 2022, then we're fairly confident in suggesting the release date will be a year or less after that. But we will let you know as soon as we hear more, perhaps in the meantime you can enjoy some of the best games coming out in 2022? It looks like a fantastic year.
