Maybe the rivalry, which has been going on for many years, is not just about different tastes. Experts gave a reason why PlayStation actually dominates the market over Xbox.
In a meeting from some time ago, Microsoft's vice chairman Brad Smith presented a chart comparing the shares of PlayStation and Xbox. The chart showed that the global split of PlayStation users is up to about 70%. Experts from DFC Intelligence have proven what causes this. Here is the explanation.
DFC Intelligence 2023 Video Game Market Forecast
Revenue over the next two years for the PlayStation platform is expected to be about 1.7 times that of Xbox, according to new forecasts from DFC Intelligence.
The above graphic shows a forecast chart of the percentage revenue advantage of PlayStation over Xbox.
Nevertheless, in addition to the forecast itself, the experts proved what could be the reason for such a negative prediction for the next two years for Xbox.
Microsoft's Own Fault
So let's take a look at the following table created by DFC Intelligence. Experts have selected the top 200 games that have been, or will be released between the end of 2022 and 2024.
Apparently, the statistics don't look so bad, but Microsoft made one crucial mistake. There is one software feature that they offer which something like the PS Plus does not have, which is the PC Game Pass. Thanks to this, players can use it on their computer without even owning an Xbox and still get great deals and play Xbox exclusive games.
- By the way, which version will you go for? Resident Evil 4 - PS5 / Resident Evil 4 - Xbox Series X
Maybe for Microsoft, on the surface, it was a good decision, as they would get more subscribers who don't even own an Xbox. However, taking the example of Starfield or S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2, which release this year as Xbox-exclusive games, will these titles result in more Xbox owners? According to DFC Intelligence, the answer is no. As a result, sales of Microsoft's consoles will not increase, and may even decrease.
