Mortal Kombat 1: Scorpion & Sub-Zero Relationship Confirmed

In Mortal Kombat 1, almost every character will be effected by the altered reality that was created in the canon ending of the 11th installment. This means Scorpion and Sub-Zero will get a rework as well, right?

Right you are! For over three decades, Scorpion and Sub-Zero were mortal enemies, and they had a blood feud. But thanks to the altered reality, their relationship has changed drastically.

At the San Diego Comic-Con, story director Dominic Cianciolo was interviewed about MK1 and accidentally spilled the beans. He confirmed a fan theory that had been floating around since the first teaser trailer.

Cianciolo told us an interesting little detail nobody has seen coming: Scorpion is Kuai Liang, the brother of Sub-Zero.

But hold on a moment! Scorpion was always Hanzo Hazashi, Sub-Zero Kuai Liang and Noob Saibot was Bi-Han. In this altered reality, Scorpion becomes Kuai Liang and Sub-Zero Bi-Han – making them blood related brothers. Whether there is still room for Noob or even another Hanzo remains a mystery.

Mortal Kombat 1: Will They Eventually Fight Each Other Again?

The bios featured on the Mortal Kombat 1 website shows that Scorpion doesn't fully support Sub-Zero's conqueror mentality.

It's a bit of a mystery how Smoke fits into the brotherly dynamic with Scorpion and Sub-Zero, considering he's their adoptive brother. Having him in the mix could add even more tragedy if their family bond falls apart.

This situation leads to countless possibilities of how Noob could be introduced yet again, as he was murdered by Scorpions hand in the first Mortal Kombat.

With Mortal Kombat 1 NetherRealm Studios is going out of their way shaking up the franchise like never before. Creating a never experienced before storyline, which feels fresh and not like you saw it somewhere before.

Mortal Kombat 1 will release for PC (Steam & Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5, Switch and Xbox Series X|S on September 19.
