The MultiVersus Open Beta is over and the game will be shut down for an entire year. When will it go offline and what will change?
The free to play brawler MultiVersus was Warner Bros' answer to Super Smash Bros. and launched into its open beta on July 19, 2022. Though it is a fun game with interesting characters – Warner has a bunch of cool licenses – it also had its fair share of issues.
To fix these issues and to deliver the best game experience possible, developer Player First Games will now close the open beta and shut down MultiVersus for an entire year.
- Since MutliVersus will be shut down in June, you should pre-order Diablo 4 that releases in the beginning of June.
MultiVersus Open Beta Ends
The Open Beta of MultiVersus will end on June 25, 2023, however the game will already be unavailable in online stores from April 4 onwards. But don't worry, MultiVersus will not be gone forever and be launched again in early 2024.
Here is the official statement:
We know there’s still a lot of work to do. As a result, we have a clearer view of what we need to focus on, specifically the content cadence of new characters, maps and modes to give you more ways to enjoy the game, along with updated netcode and more matchmaking improvements. We’ll also be reworking the progression system based on your feedback and looking at new ways for you to connect with your friends in the game.To do this the right way, we will be closing the MultiVersus Open Beta on June 25, 2023. As part of this process, we’ll be pausing updates and taking the game offline as we prepare for the launch of MultiVersus, which we are targeting for early 2024.
But what does that mean for the players? Well, during the downtime, all online modes and features will be unavailable. However, you can still access the training room (The Lab), your characters and cosmetics and play local matches.
The devs also promise to make sure all progress and content will carry over from the beta to the full game release.
Let's hope the devs can fix some of the bigger issues until 2024, so MultiVersus can retain a healthy player base. The characters and universe are a lot of fun after all and there is so much potential for cool new content.
Maybe some of these games can fill the gap until MultiVersus' re-release:
