The upcoming Assassin's Creed game – Assassin's Creed Rift (code name) – has been delayed during Ubisoft's quarterly earnings call.
If you have already played through Assassin's Creed Valhalla and are waiting for the next installment of the series, you should probably sit down and grab a tissue. The previously unannounced project, code-named Rift, has been pushed back a few months.
At Ubisoft's quarterly earnings call some time ago, not only was the highly anticipated Avatar game 'Frontiers of Pandora' delayed from fall 2022 to at least 2023, but also another smaller unannounced premium title. And, as you probably guessed, that's Assassin's Creed Rift.
Unannounced Assassin's Creed Game Delayed
As Jason Schreier reported, the next Assassin's Creed title was supposed to be released in February 2023, but Ubisoft has now postponed it by another few months. The reason for this is that the developers – Ubisoft's office in Bordeaux – are quite behind schedule with the yet unannounced project.
Yesterday, Ubisoft said in addition to Avatar it's delayed a "smaller unannounced premium game." That game is Assassin's Creed Rift, Bloomberg News has confirmed, bumped from February to spring. Leaves Ubisoft with an anemic lineup for this fiscal year https://t.co/l8isA17bUm

Its current code name is Assassin's Creed Rift, which was originally supposed to just be an expansion to Assassin's Creed Valhalla. In the meantime, though, it has evolved into a standalone game that was supposed to fill Ubisoft's thin release schedule this year. That could actually be a good reason why Ubisoft Bordeaux is asking for more time.
The new release date is expected to be after the company's current fiscal year – maybe we can play the next Assassin's Creed installment between May and June next year. Ubisoft has already promised to reveal more info about Rift in September. So far, we don't really know what to expect. Just a few leaks about the next Assassin's Creed game here and there. Let's hope for the best.
