We love rumors. Half the fun in upcoming games is the rumor mill, the speculation and the anticipation. In case of Cyberpunk 2077 it's even all of the fun. With Assassin's Creed, gamers love to wonder about the next installments setting as much as anything else. Now that we went from Africa to Greece to ancient Britain... what's next?

New Assassin's Creed Release Date

So let's cut through these rumors like an assassin cuts through butter: Like any other human being.

First things first, the alleged platforms are Xbox Series X, PS5 and PC. No surprises there. The code name is alleged to be Assassin's Creed Champion and, supposedly, we will get an announcement at the next E3. Considering that the E3 doesn't take place for another few months, it should be no surprise to anyone then that the rumored release date is early 2022. Interestingly enough that means that Ubisoft is not sticking to an annual release for the series.

Keen eyes will have already noticed one of the rumored settings in the pictures: France. Interesting and definitely worth exploring, BUT: We already got that with Assassin's Creed Unity. Been there, done that. We are much more interested in the second setting the rumors suggest: Medieval Germany.

Interesting. Very, very interesting.

Unfortunately, the rumors end there. No worries though, we'll take it from here:

What We Want From the New Assassin's Creed

Innovation. Yes, Origins was cool and Odyssey expanded on it further. Yes, Valhalla was kind of a breath of fresh air, but still... none of them are quite the innovation we desired. All the Assassin's Creed games still have that very obvious Ubisoft stamp of... we're not exactly sure what to call it, but we want to say: 'genericness'. Now, don't get us wrong, Assassin's Creed Valhalla was a great game and deserved its Game of the Year nominations, but we would like to see AC reach higher levels: We want an Assassin's Creed that competes with Red Dead Redemption 2 in terms of world-building.

Is this unrealistic? Not necessarily, maybe only as long as Ubisoft clings to the 'Assassin's Creed' moniker. Maybe Assassin's Creed Valhalla would've been even better as just: Valhalla. Maybe, just maybe, a pure vikings game with no Assassin's Creed prefix would've been just right.

Actually, never mind the maybes – we're putting our foot down: Stop forcing the crappy, annoying modern day storyline on us and just give us the historic experience we deserve.
