Details on a new 2D Mario game have been leaked on the internet.
Yahoo! Mamma Mia! Let's go! Ok sorry, had to get that out of my system. While Mario is kind of everywhere, especially thanks to Smash and the upcoming movie adaptation, we actually haven't gotten a proper new Mario game in a long time. We had Super Mario 3D World: Bowser's Fury in 2021 and Super Mario Odyssey in 2017. But what about 2D Mario games? Fewer and further between. That might change soon though, according to a leak that alleges to reveal a new 2D Mario game. Here are the details.
Leak Details New Mario Game
This leak comes from Zippo, a terminally online blogger who is a notorious figure in the leaker and gaming community. They allege on their blog, that they heard details about a new 2D Mario Game, which is supposed to be in development at Nintendo. Here are all the details they shared:
- The game won't be called "Super Mario" and will instead have its own name
- It will feature a brand-new artstyle that is described as a "surprise"
- Online multiplayer will be part of the game
- The game is "very far along in development" and is supposed to release in the fiscal year 2023/2024
While all of that sounds nice, and Nintendo is very likely to be working on something with a 2D Mario game, it is hard to really buy this leak. A lot of these points are a bit generic and could be made up. And like we said, Zippo is a controversial figure who hasn't always been right. So, take this one with a chunky grain of salt.
However, a new Nintendo Direct has been revealed to happen soon, so maybe there is hope for a new Mario game there. Let's wait and see if we will get something after all.
