Pokémon Scarlet & Violet give the freedom that many fans of the franchise always desired – at least on the surface. Technically, you could tackle any of the games' challenges in any order you want to. But there's one issue with that: the games don't have level scaling. That means that every badge will have you fight Pokémon with different level caps, without telling you exactly what those are.

If you want to have a smooth experience and play the game in the "right" order, then check out this guide. We will show you, how you can get every badge in the games without ever being hopelessly underleveled.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet: Badge Order

In order to get all 18 badges, you have to defeat all gym leaders, Titan Pokémon and Team Star Leaders. You will meet this within three quest lines; Victory Road, Path of Legends and Starfall Street respectively. If you want to do this without running into too much trouble, you will have to go all over the map of Paldea. Every area of the games has different level caps, so it can easily happen that you are way under- or overleveled, if you just go from one place to another.

The game also blocks your progress in other ways, for example by blocking access to parts of the map until you defeat Team Star Dark Crew leader Giacomo or Team Star Fire Crew leader Mela. The game doesn't tell you much of this, so it can easily happen that you get stuck or breeze through an encounter too easily.

Here's the best order to get all badges and have a smooth, well-balanced experienced, including what types of Pokémon you will mainly fight in those encounters:

  1. Cortondo gym (Bug)
  2. Stony Cliff Titan (Rock)
  3. Artazon gym (Grass)
  4. Open Sky Titan (Flying)
  5. Team Star Dark Crew (Bug, Fairy, Fighting)
  6. Levincia gym (Electric)
  7. Team Star Fire Crew (Ground, Rock, Water)
  8. Lurking Steel Titan (Steel)
  9. Cascarrafa gym (Water)
  10. Team Star Poison Crew (Ground, Bug, Psychic)
  11. Medali gym (Normal)
  12. Montenevera gym (Ghost)
  13. Quaking Earth Titan (Ground)
  14. Alfornada gym (Psychic)
  15. Glaseado gym (Ice)
  16. Team Star Fairy Crew (Steel, Poison)
  17. False Dragon Titan (Dragon)
  18. Team Star Fighting Crew (Flying, Psychic)

After you have all your badges, you can tackle the endgame content, like fighting the Elite Four or Arven.
