Tastes differ, of course. With some Pokémon designs, however, the community agrees that they are absolutely ugly.
Pikachu, Charizard or Lucario... out of over 900 Pokémon, these three are some of the all-time fan favorites. Not only are they quite iconic, but they also look and feel like Pokémon. However, with every new generation, there are also some designs that are just terrible. And that's me being polite.
So far, Game Freak has shown very little about the two upcoming games – Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. At least the new monsters shown all look quite good, which is why you won't find any of them in this article. That's not necessary either because the developers have released enough crap in recent years. Let's take a look at some of the worst designs!
Ugliest Pokémon Ever
I don't know if nostalgia really plays such a big role, or if Game Freak is slowly running out of the best ideas, but the older Pokémon surely get less hate from the community. Sometimes I can't understand it because in Kanto, Geodude was already walking... or rolling around. Just a rock with two arms. Wow. If this Pokémon were released today, it would be a meme.
A few days ago, the community of the Pokémon Subreddit also discussed which are the worst designs of all eight generations. And – I'll be honest – I really didn't expect some of these names in the comments. You can take a look for yourself:

While I'm also #TeamTurtwig in Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum, I never thought that so many people don't love the design of Chimchar. It's probably a much better fire monkey than Simisear – I hope we all agree on that.
By the way, the comment with the most upvotes named Sawk and Throh from Generation 5 – according to the community, the two ugliest Pokémon ever. The designs aren't that bad, just really lame. But there is one Pokémon that I think is definitely uglier and hurts your eyes:
What a weird fish. This looks a bit like the time when I was seven and got some crayons for my birthday and that's what one of my Pokémon creations would probably look like. The colors simply don't match, and the whole body just freaks me out. And those lips. Let's not even start with the lips. Certainly, one of the ugliest Pokémon of all time.

But Game Freak, we don't want to be too harsh with you. There are over 900 Pokémon already and most of them look at least decent. Other games impressively show that there can be much uglier Pokémon-like creatures in this world.
Let's just hope Game Freak doesn't take a cue from those creatures for Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. Hopefully, the new designs will be based on the old school Pokémon. Otherwise, we'll have to update the article again in a few months. And let's be real, nobody wins in this case.
