Redfall got a new trailer, everyone! The hype is real!
What happens when you combine Left4Dead with Fortnite? You get Redfall, an upcoming game slated to launch sometime between this year and the next. But what does this game have to offer? You’d be surprised, as there are noticeable similarities between Left4Dead and Redfall.
Nobody was expecting Arkane Studios and Bethesda to announce Redfall at the 2021 E3 Expo. Redfall is being designed for co-op gameplay in an open-world environment, and that’s exciting because Arkane Studios is changing up the standard formula for shooters. The best example I could give you would be Plants vs Zombies: Battle for Neighborville.
Personally, I'm super hyped about Redfall, as I’m confident this will become my favorite FPS for 2022/2023. But will everyone else feel the same way? Let's look at the details.

Is Redfall Coming Out In 2022?
[Update, May 12, 2022]
Oh, how right we have been. Arkane Studios has unfortunately delayed Redfall. They've confirmed that the game would release in the first half of 2023. No exact date is known yet, but if something gets announced, we will update this article.

Here’s where I think most of you will get excited; Redfall is slated to release this summer for the Xbox Series X|S and PC, but there has been speculation the game could be pushed back because of development delays with the pandemic. Let’s hope that Bethesda and Arkane Studios can keep their initial release schedule.
Redfall hasn’t become available for preorders, and there aren’t any special editions available to players right now. This could indicate that delays are inevitable but here’s to hoping I’m wrong.
Redfall Game Setting & Story: All Leaks & Rumors
Unfortunately, I cannot tell you about the specifics of Redfall’s storyline. Bethesda and Arkane Studios have remained quiet for obvious reasons. What we do know, is that Redfall is located on an isolated island previously known for being the best holiday spot. Things changed when the vampires arrived and started attacking the population. Now it’s our job to help the town stop these ghoulish monsters.
What interested me the most about these vampires is that they aren’t designed as bloodsuckers. Instead, they are a byproduct of a scientific experiment that went wrong. It means there will be ungodly vampires capable of doing incredible things.
Just like Left4Dead, there are four characters to choose from in Redfall. I expect they’ll all have different personalities and capabilities that influence the gameplay. If you're wondering, these four characters include Jacob Boyer, Remi De La Rosa, Devinder Crousley, and Layla Ellison.
Here are a few details that should surprise you:
- Jacob Boyer – Bethesda and Arkane Studios haven’t identified much about Jacob Boyer’s personality. However, we know this man has become scarred from his experiences in Redfall. Those experiences caused him to acquire the “Vampiric Eye”, which assists with his sharpshooting skills as a sniper. It’s also known that Jacob Boyer has himself a Raven companion, which I’m guessing can overlook the entire city of Redfall.
- Remi De La Rosa – This woman is tougher than you’d expect, as she was previously part of the US Navy. It allowed Remi Rosa to acquire skillsets as a combat engineer and special rescue operative. Better yet, this woman is also a genius who has created numerous inventions like her robotic dog.
- Devinder Crousley – You can expect to experience some ghostly moments with Devinder Crousley, as this paranormal investigator has gone to Redfall for research purposes. This character will use weapons made from his creation to eliminate. This means there should be modding options in Redfall.
- Layla Ellison – I’m expecting a large percentage of you will choose to play as Layla Ellison. Why, might you ask? She has telekinetic abilities that were gained after losing her memory. She’s the equivalent of a sorceress in Redfall and could be one of the more powerful characters around.
How these characters are used will define your overall experience in Redfall, as Arkane Studios has developed this game for combination attacks. We’re meant to work as teammates to defeat our enemies. Otherwise, we could find ourselves losing round after round. An excellent example of this is seen in the gameplay trailer, as Layla Ellison and Jacob Boyer fight with combination techniques by using telekinetic powers.
It's interesting how Jacob Boyer was hurdled into the air and dropped into a new sharpshooting position by Layla Ellison. This showed how everyone must rely on their teammates and co-op techniques. However, if you’re someone that favors running into combat by yourself, Redfall does have a solo mode. The differences of those however? No idea.
Here’s what blew my mind: Arkane Studios has suggested that Redfall will be a dynamic shooter. It’s already known that enemies will continue to evolve as levels get harder, but could the environments change as well? This is the real question. I’m hoping that Arkane Studios will enable restructured environments into Redfall, as this would create an added level of replayability. It would mean our hard-earned money wouldn’t go to waste so quickly.
Is Redfall Getting Released Onto PC And Xbox?
Haven’t you heard about Microsoft purchasing Bethesda for $7.5 billion? Well, they did, and things have massively changed. Games that were slated to launch on the PS4/PS5 have become exclusive to the Xbox Series X|S, and I’m not just talking about Redfall. This also happened to Starfield.
This could be disappointing for my PlayStation readers, but don’t lose hope. There’s a chance that Microsoft could launch Redfall onto the PS4 and PS5 after the game has succeeded in its financial requirements. Nothing is set in stone, as everything with Bethesda and Microsoft is somewhat in the air now. Either way, Redfall is being released onto the Xbox Series X|S and PC.
Is Redfall Part Of The Game Pass On Xbox?
You’re about to get excited because Redfall is being made available for free through the Xbox Game Pass. However, downloading this game requires a subscription to the service. That means if you aren’t subscribed to the Xbox Game Pass, purchasing this game outright is needed. We don’t know how much Redfall is going to cost, but I’m expecting it will retail at full price for anyone that doesn’t have an Xbox Game Pass. So why wouldn’t you subscribe? It’s way cheaper, and you get access to dozens of games, including the upcoming Starfield when it’s released.
Will Redfall Have Cosmetic DLC?
This is where we start speculating about Redfall, as nobody knows what this game's microtransactions could include. I’m expecting there to be cosmetic outfits and weapons that we can purchase through an in-game store. It would be surprising if Bethesda and Arkane Studios avoided adding this feature into Redfall, as that would mean a potential loss of significant profits. I wouldn’t think Microsoft would allow for such a decision, so you can almost guarantee that Redfall will have cosmetic DLC just like Fortnite!
Game Trailer and Demo
[Update, July 1, 2022]
We've gotten a new trailer for Redfall today! Don't expect too much from it though, it's literally just a one-minute trailer that showcases a bit of gameplay and where the game is at right now. Still, it looks cool and if you're looking forward to Redfall, then this trailer will definitely get you hyped!

There are nearly five minutes of cinematic footage that show off different characters and enemies with various capabilities. The battle between Layla Ellison and her vampire foe was the most exciting, though. It shows how Redfall relies on magical powers. Watch it yourself:
