Capcom's Resident Evil 4 is returning with an unexpected remake. That's right, Leon S. Kennedy is coming to next-generation consoles like the Xbox Series X/S, and we're here to break everything down for you.
After considerable speculation, Capcom has confirmed that the RE4 Remake is in development. We couldn’t be more excited, as RE4 is renowned among the gaming community. Its nightmarish experience is unmatched.
Since launching onto the GameCube in 2005, Resident Evil 4 has been ported to thirteen consoles. It was even developed into a VR Game for the Meta Quest 2, which was a terrifying experience to behold. But Capcom isn’t done scaring us yet, as they’re remaking Resident Evil 4 from the ground up.
This is similar to the Resident Evil 2 & Resident Evil 3 Remakes for the Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, and PS5. We’ve played these games recently and know the horrifying power that Capcom has to create jump scares within the revamped RE Universe.
We’re expecting Capcom to amplify the tension factor in Resident Evil 4. It would make the experience more intimidating & unnerving for anyone that hasn’t played it before; even those who have played RE4 would find themselves frightened by the remake.
Is Resident Evil 4 Remake Coming Out In 2022?
Capcom confirmed during the June 2022 PlayStation State of Play Event that the RE4 Remake would launch on March 24th, 2023. Fortunately, this is less than one year away from our current calendars.
We won’t have to wait long before replaying Leon’s story in the Village. Capcom has promised that story-wise, nothing is changing between the original and the remake. However, improvements are being made to modernize this game for the next generation.
Anyone that’s experienced the Resident Evil 2 & Resident Evil 3 Remake’s knows that fidelity improvements will be made to RE4. However, those improvements will target next-generation consoles like the PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
This will mark the first instance of Capcom remaking an older game for next-generation consoles, which should mean an immediate improvement in visual fidelity. Therefore, we can expect better graphics than ever before. Even better than Resident Evil Village.
Game Setting, Story, And Everything We Know About Resident Evil 4 Remake So Far | All Leaks & Rumors
Spoilers for anyone that hasn’t played Resident Evil 4.
The United States Government has requested the aid of Leon S. Kennedy to rescue the President’s daughter, Ashley Graham. She has been abducted by an unknown cult that resides within a rural village in Spain. When arriving at this location, Leon S. Kennedy learns that the villagers have become hostile variations of zombie-like creatures named the Ganado.
As Leon S. Kennedy searches for Ashley Graham, he learns that this cult is named the Los Illuminados and that the Ganado have pledged themselves to this disturbing cult. It’s discovered that this isn’t the same virus as found in Racoon City. Instead, these villagers have been infected by a mind-controlling parasite named Las Plagas.
Leon must fend himself from the Ganado and numerous other enemies to save the President’s daughter. But can this Racoon City Police Officer accomplish the job? Only time will tell, as he’ll have to explore numerous locations to complete the mission. Those locations include:
- The Spanish Village
- Los Illuminados Battleship
- University of Massachusetts
- Salazar’s Castle
- Research Facility Island
It's guaranteed that these locations will be updated significantly throughout the Resident Evil 4 Remake, and we can’t wait to explore them. There should be notable differences between the level design & implemented gameplay, as Capcom will want to update the RE4 Remake for modern-day audiences.
Is The Resident Evil 4 Remake Coming To Xbox Series X/S And PC?
Capcom has confirmed that their Resident Evil 4 Remake is launching for the Xbox Series X/S and PC on March 24th, 2022. We expect that Capcom will launch an RE4 Remake: Collectors Edition for next-generation consoles and computers. It could offer things like:
- Village Map
- RE4 Digital Soundtrack
- RE4 Collector’s Artbook
- Leon S. Kennedy Figure
- The Merchant Collector’s Item Box

There isn’t any confirmation that Capcom is launching an RE4 Remake: Collector’s Edition. This is purely speculation.
Is Resident Evil 4 Remake Part Of The Game Pass On Xbox?
Unfortunately, Capcom and Microsoft haven’t agreed to launch any of their Resident Evil Remakes onto the Xbox Series X/S.
Resident Evil 4: The Remake won’t be any different, as Capcom and their financial investors will want to maintain profits for their upcoming third-person-horror game. If you’re looking for something horror-themed on the Xbox Game Pass, we would recommend looking into the following titles:
- Prey
- Back 4 Blood
- Alien Isolation
- The Evil Within
- Dead Space 1 & 2
It’s noted that Capcom isn’t expected to release the Resident Evil 4 Remake on PlayStation’s PS+ Extra or PS+ Premium. We will have to purchase this title either way. Fortunately, Capcom regularly puts their games on sale.
Game Trailer
Capcom showcased a few glimpses of the Resident Evil 4 Remake for Xbox, PlayStation, and PC. What we have seen shows an incredible improvement in visual fidelity and storytelling. It seems we’ll have an additional character with Ada Wong, meaning that there will be two storylines to the RE4 Remake.
