Multiple PlayStation studios have asked Sony to release their games on PC as well. Has Sony listened?

Sony posted a job listing for a "Senior Director, PC Planning and Strategy". Now, why would they need that if they were to only focus on PlayStation exclusives games in the future?

Many believe that, instead of only bringing exclusives to PC like Microsoft has already done, Sony is looking to release their games on more consoles than just the PS in the future.

The ideal candidate will have the following responsibilities:

  • Lead PC growth and commercial strategy
  • Growing PC MAU for PC content
  • Develop and implement global PC store strategy and process
  • [...]
  • GSBO PC growth, strategy, and sales execution though global PC store fronts (Epic, Steam)

I don't know about you, but that sounds a little too much for "simply" bringing an exclusive to PC, wouldn't you say?

Until now it was clear, PlayStayion-exclusive games don't end up on other consoles or systems. The Last of Us, Unchartered, Ratchet and Clank... just to name a few games any PC and Xbox gamers could never touch, but this could change quite soon!

With Horizon Zero Dawn we've already got one game that saw quite the success story on PC and not too long ago we also received the 2018 version of God of War on PC. Already on the day of the release, God of War had over 74,000 players on steam with a rating of 97%.

So it really isn't hard to see that PlayStation exclusive games can also be quite the hit on PC and well... other PlayStation studios have realized this as well and are now asking for some games to be made available on PC as well.

More PS-Exclusives on PC

Cory Barlog was asked about Sonys plans regarding adding more games for PC:

I think it was the collective of studios all over saying this is a really good idea. We should be looking into this. Eventually, I think it reached that tipping point. When we had sent so many suggestion box suggestions that they were like, 'I’m tired of hearing all this. Fine, we’ll do this.' It’s a process. We’re still figuring it out as a company and as individual studios how to do this and what the process and strategy will be.

Basically, Barlog explained that there are multiple studios that work for Sony on PlayStation exclusive games and that they've been asking for their games to be released on other platforms as well.

Of course, Sony will want to save some of the bigger titles exclusively for themselves, so they can attract players to their platform – you know and spend money on a PS5... if only there were some to buy. With a larger player base, they'll be able to sell more and thus make a bigger profit than their competitors.

Whether God of War Ragnarok will land on PC wasn't answered though. But we do believe it would be a bit odd to have the first part be available on PC – with huge success – and leave the second part for the PlayStation. Let's keep our fingers crossed for more PS exclusive content on PC!
