PlayStation will reportedly get exclusive remakes of some iconic Konami titles. We first heard these leaks a few months ago, but now a trusted insider is corroborating the story.
Only a few days after it was announced that the UK's CMA plan to block Microsoft's purchase of Activision, we're already hearing about more great news for Sony. Poor Phil Spencer can't catch a break... (listen to the full Xbox crisis-report here).
The new deal we're hearing about certainly isn't as significant as the Microsoft-Activision deal, but it will be music to the ears of MGS and Silent Hill fans who are now on PlayStation. And we're willing to bet there are millions of folks like that.
- Maybe this was the news you needed to hear to finally bite the bullet and get a PS5 ? (Although we always like to remind readers that the Xbox Series S is still outrageously cheap).
Insiders Claim Sony x Konami Exclusivity Deal Is In The Works
During the most recent XboxEra podcast (02:27:41), host Shpeshal_Nick claimed that a Metal Gear Solid 3 remake will be revealed at the next PlayStation showcase, with some kind of timed-exclusivity on the platform. The editor of Windows Central, Jez Corden, then responded on Twitter. Corden claimed that he had heard the same rumors, and that this was all part of a larger Konami-Sony deal:
Just heard Sony landed a deal with Konami for Silent Hill, Metal Gear, and maybe even a new Castlevania.
Long story short: expect more Konami remakes to be released on PS5 in the coming years. As we said up top, this is great news for PlayStation users, and just one more piece of bad news for Xbox (don't even get us started on the dumpster-fire that is Redfall).
Would classic remakes be enough to get you buying one console over the other?
It's interesting to look back at this Short from five months ago, which shows that sometimes even the craziest leaks are in fact true:
