In Starfield, weapon tiers and weapon rarity are important to understand if you want to know which weapons are the best. We will explain all weapon tiers and rarities in this article, so you always know which gun to pick.
Starfield is huge! And by huge, I not only mean the universe you can explore, but also the different mechanics that are in the game. There is crafting, exploring, looting, leveling, research, romances and of course combat. And the combat actually feels pretty good – Starfield is not a shooter after all, but the gun play does almost feel like it was.
So what do we need for combat? Right, weapons! And obviously we always want to carry the best weapons available to us, so we need to check which wepaon is the strongest option. To do so we can look at weapon tiers and weapon rarities. The higher the tier and the rarer the rarity, the better the weapon... easy, right?
So let's take a look at all of Stanfield's weapon tiers and rarities.
All Starfield Weapon Tiers
There are a total of five weapon tiers in Starfield:
- Base
- Calibrated
- Refined
- Advanced
- Superior
The higher the tier, the better the stats and the value of the gun. Basically, the weapon tier of guns you can buy or find will increase with your character level. So Base tier weapons are available from the start, while Calibrated tier guns will start appearing after you reach level 10, Refined tier weapons after you reach level 20-25, Advanced tier after level 30-35 and Superior tier after level 40-50. However, those level caps are not really set, so don't be surprised if you find better or worse weapons on the respective level.
All Starfield Weapon Rarities
Additionally, to the weapon tiers, there are four weapon rarities in Starfield:
- Common: no modifier
- Rare: 1 modifiers
- Epic: 2 modifiers
- Legendary: 3 modifiers
While weapon tiers will only increase the stats and value of a weapon, weapon rarity determines how many modifiers a weapon has. The better the rarity, the more weapon modifiers will be equipped to the gun. The rarity of a weapon thus isn't bound to your character level but just pure luck.
All in all this means that when figuring out, what weapon is the best in your inventory, we need to look at two stats, weapon tier and weapon rarity and then choose the best combination. Without a question, a Superior Legendary weapon will be the absolute best and usually we can just go with the better tier because of the generally better stats, but sometimes specific modifiers might actually be even better. As an example, a Calibrated Legendary with three modifiers could very well be better than a Refined Common or Rare, depending on the modifiers.
Now you know how to pick the best weapons in Starfield, so go out there and conquer the universe!
