After a few leaks and 6 years after the last Street Fighter, Street Fighter 6 has finally been officially announced. And we even have a short teaser trailer....
Who all loves fighting games? Yep, me too. Even though I'm mostly into Mortal Kombat, today's news makes me very happy. After 6 years, Street Fighter 6 has finally been announced. After we already got a countdown on publisher Capcom's official site, the new installment of the iconic brawler series has now been officially announced with a short teaser. The announcement followed directly after the end of the Capcom Pro Tour. But before we ramble on, check out the teaser here:
In the short trailer, we see a pretty massive Ryu and Luke. The latter is the last character from Street Fighter V, which was already said to appear in the sequel. What's immediately noticeable in the teaser is the much more realistic look of the characters. Sure, everything still looks very cartoony and exaggerated, but much more realistic than in previous parts of the series. That's certainly a matter of taste, but we like the new look very much. However, the logo above has already caused some ridicule in the community – it just doesn't look like Street Fighter...
Since the last part of the series, Street Fighter V, was not very popular in the community, especially at release, we can only hope that Capcom has learned from this. SFV had some problems with its servers at launch, but the following DLCs were able to win back the community. So let's hope that Capcom will take a cue from the last two DLCs and, above all, place great emphasis on stable servers right at launch. A brawler game that relies more and more on online battles should also offer the necessary infrastructure to make that possible.
Street Fighter 6 Release Date
Speaking of the launch, when will Street Fighter 6 be released? Unfortunately, a release date has not been announced yet. All we know so far is that we should get more information this year in the summer – that's actually all we get to see on Capcom's site apart from the teaser. But since 2022 marks the 35th anniversary of the Street Fighter series, it would be quite fitting for Street Fighter 6 to be released this year. Maybe just in time for the Christmas season...
Are you already looking forward to the new fighting game from Capcom? Have you practiced your Hadouken sufficiently? If you absolutely don't want to play Street Fighter, Gotham Knights might be something for you.
