The Wolf Among Us 2's future is uncertain once more as Telltale Games faces mass layoffs.
Fans of Telltale Games's unique brand of Choose-Your-Own-Adventure games definitely haven't had it easy these past few years. First the development studio implodes due to poor management and a string of commercial failures. Then it's revived in name only by a group of previously unrelated investors like one of the shambling Walkers from their smash hit adaptation of "The Walking Dead" .
Skeptics of this "new" Telltale were appeased by the announcement of The Wolf Among Us 2, a sequel to one of the studio's more popular games that ended on a bit of a cliffhanger. Now even that silver lining seems to have been cut off, as a former employee of the "new" Telltale put out a post on X on October 5 claiming that most of their staff were laid off in early September of this year.
Telltale Lays Off Staff Again - What This Could Mean for The Wolf Among Us 2
The official Telltale account later confirmed this in a separate post, citing "current market conditions" as the reason for the layoffs. "All projects currently in development are still in production, and we have no further updates at this time," the statement reads further. What exactly this means for The Wolf Among Us 2 is unclear, but it's hard to imagine the game could still be finished on a skeleton staff.
Telltale are hardly the only studio getting rid of some of its work force at the moment; Mass layoffs are currently happening all across the industry in an apparent move to scale back to pre-Covid conditions, with even AAA publishers and developers like Epic Games, Blizzard and Naughty Dog not being spared. Still, Telltale Games getting the axe a second time before The Wolf Among Us 2 makes it out the door would be especially tragic.
