Ubisoft have been caught red-handed. They're beta testing yet another Battle Royale. Obviously, this is a space everyone wants to get into if they can. Battle Royales have proven immensely popular and unbelievably profitable. But it's a market Ubisoft has never successfully tapped into.

They've tried (and failed) to make good BRs in the past, but they won't give up. So alongside Ubisoft's Tom Clancy Battle Royale, Ghost Recon: Frontline, here is their other offering coming in the near-future: Wild Arena.

Ubisoft's New BR: Wild Arena

The new Battle Royale from Ubisoft is called Wild Arena, and it's probably closest in design to Apex Legends, although on a smaller scale. This is a hero-based BR, so you choose a character with unique abilities at the start of each match. And like all other BRs, the aim of the game is to be the last one left standing, either playing solo by yourself or in a team of three. There are lots of melee options, although it's mainly ranged combat. And the whole thing takes place on a tropical island that looks like it was decked out for a concert or party.

It's different from most other BRs we've seen though because it's exclusive to mobile and therefore uses a smaller map, simpler graphics and shorter game times. To be precise, the matches are 10 minutes long and the lobbies only have the capacity for 40 players. You can think of it more as a BR-lite.

Wild Arena is still in the beta phase. It's currently available for download, but only in a select few regions, and Ubisoft are remaining tight-lipped about where in the world the game is being tested. They also haven't given us a full release date, but we'll keep you posted as soon as we hear more. Until then, you can always check the App store, and who knows, maybe your region is allowed to play already.
