The Ubisoft Forward September 2022 finally happened and, as expected, we saw a lot of Assassin's Creed. A lot of it. But there were also some surprises and other announcements. Here are all games shown at the event.
The much-anticipated Ubisoft Forward September 2022 was announced a while back, and now it finally happened. As expected, we saw a lot of Assassin's Creed, including a deeper look at the next mainline title, Assassin's Creed Mirage. But that was not all, as we also saw some other Ubisoft titles with (more or less) exciting announcements. Here are all games shown at the Ubisoft Forward.
Ubisoft Forward September 2022: A Whole Lot of Assassin's Creed
The biggest chunk of the show was reserved for the future of Assassin's Creed. Ubisoft has big plans for their biggest franchise and so we saw announcements for four, five, six Assassin's Creed games. We lost count. It was a lot! Here's everything we saw about our favorite hooded heroes.
Assassin's Creed Mirage
It has been thoroughly leaked and Ubisoft itself confirmed that Assassin's Creed Mirage will be the next mainline title in the long-running series. The game was shown in more detail, including a cool reveal trailer.
Everything that we heard before about Mirage was confirmed: you play as Basim from Valhalla and the game is set in Baghdad. It will harken back to the roots of the series and focus on stealth, parkour and assassinations. Assassin's Creed Mirage will release in 2023 for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and PC. You can read everything about the game in this article:
Assassin's Creed Infinity
The long-discussed Assassin's Creed Infinity was finally revealed... sort of. First details were discussed and it turns out, that Infinity won't be a game per se, but rather a platform for the Assassin's Creed franchise going forward. Within Infinity, different games will be released and Ubisoft revealed a few of them here: Assassin's Creed Red, Assassin's Creed Hexe and Assassin's Creed Jade. These are all code names so far and no release dates have been announced so far. But we know what the games themselves are supposed to be.
Assassin's Creed Red will finally fulfil the dream of many fans and take the AC franchise to Japan. You will play as a Shinobi, so expect some more stealth action in this one. That's all we know so far about code name Red.
Assassin's Creed Hexe is more of a mystery. The exact scenario hasn't been revealed. But Ubisoft promises "a very different type of Assassin’s Creed game", and Hexe could delve into witchcraft. The game director was revealed to be Clint Hocking, who directed some of the most exciting Ubisoft games with Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, Far Cry 2 and Watch Dogs: Legion.
Assassin's Creed Jade is the last announced title. And this one is a bit different: Jade will be a "AAA mobile game", a full-on open-world Assassin's Creed experience on phones and tablets. The game will be set in another much-requested scenario, China around the year 215 BCE. You will also be able to create your own assassin. Neat!
This wasn't the last mobile gaming announcement for Assassin's Creed. Ubisoft has announced a partnership with Netflix Games, bringing multiple new titles to the streaming giant's gaming section. This includes Jade, as well as sequels to Valiant Hearts and Mighty Quest for Epic Loot. That's all regarding Assassin's Creed! We made it, folks. Exciting times, exciting times.
Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope Looks Amazing & Gets Rayman DLC
Ubisoft showed off a lot about Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope, including extended gameplay. And it still looks absolutely amazing. The game comes out on October 20 for Nintendo Switch and we are very excited. It has also been revealed, that the game will get DLC, including a Rayman-themed campaign! They're doing my boy Rayman dirty here, but hey... better something than nothing.
Skull & Bones Is Still A Thing... Somehow
Skull & Bones was also at the showcase, because it has to be. A new presentation showed off ship customization and The Helm, the in-game trading network. Look... I would like to love this game, but it still seems uninspired and clunky. Let's see how it turned out on November 8, when it finally releases.
Other Announcements
These were the big fish at the Ubisoft Forward, but what else did we see? Here are some of our highlights from the other announcements:
- Just Dance 2023 announced, coming this holiday season.
- Rainbow Six Mobile gameplay was shown. There will be a beta on September 12, Google Play users can sign up now here.
- The Division Heartland and Resurgence were shown off, getting testing phases as well.
- PC, Google Stadia, and Amazon Luna players can use Ubisoft+ Multi-Access for free until October 10.
