It's 2022. The world is burning (literally) and half the globe is afraid to turn on their heater this Winter because of the ongoing war in Ukraine. So, what's Ubisoft doing? Increasing their prices. Big L.
Listen, I'm all for paying companies a good amount of money for a game that I'm going to enjoy thoroughly and will spend literally hours with. And even though I wasn't happy about how much the prices for video games have increased in the last years, I've accepted it. However... it's 2022. This isn't a good year. And for Ubisoft to increase prices for their games... just no.
Yes, I know that many publishers have increased their prices over the last years, and you may think it's unfair of me to target Ubisoft now. But no... they could have set a statement by keeping their AAA-games at a stable $60.
No front, Ubisoft... but this one's for you...
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot has now confirmed that, from now on, all Ubisoft AAA-games will retail for $70, starting with Skull and Bones. Ubisoft AAA-games include fully-sized Assassin's Creed games (like AC: Codename Red), Far Cry, The Division and more. Be prepared to now pay more for these games in the future.
Once again, I want to stress that yes, Ubisoft is not the first company to do this, it is merely following the footsteps of companies like Sony, Activision or EA. However, there's also the other side of the coin. Microsoft, for example, confirmed that it will not raise their prices.
I guess I'll have to switch over to become an Xbox player after all.
