Why The Resident Evil 4 Remake Will Be Even Better Than The Original

We finally got a first look at gameplay for the Resident Evil 4 remake and it convinced me that this new version could be even better than the legendary original.

When Capcom announced a remake for Resident Evil 4, my jimmies were tingling. What a terrible idea it seemed to be. Resi 4 is old, sure. But it's still very playable, especially in the ultra HD edition that came out for PC a few years ago. Now we saw some gameplay for the remake though, and you know what? I'll admit it – I was wrong. This looks phenomenal and could even surpass the original.

Resident Evil 4 Remake Rocks

In this new gameplay presentation, it looks like we see the beginning of the game. I say "looks like", because it changed quite a bit. It's mostly details (where Leon is doing what), but this is a clear sign that the remake will walk its own path, without copying the original beat by beat. And that is very exciting.

The remake could only fail by sticking too close to an original, which is so beloved and also still playable. And it seems to do so by not just honoring, but completely nailing the feeling and vibe of the original.

Resi 4 definitely looks better than some next-gen-exclusive games...

It is a bit darker, the ouroboros look different, and Leon can crouch now. But this quickly feels like Resident Evil 4. It's daylight, gothic horror, more stress than fright, more action than survival. It's disgusting zombies and cheesy one-liners. It's exactly what it needs to be.

And it looks fucking amazing, lest we forget. Leon's jacket especially... mamma mia. Check out the gameplay here and you will see, why I'm so goddamn hyped. Resident Evil 4 Remake will release for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, PC, and Xbox Series X|S on March 24, 2023.
